I just picked up the guitar to finally learn how to play. I've lost my only pick a few times. It sucks!

How about a make shift one? Have a piece of plastic? Make one!

+1...

Throughout my house and the studio, there are probably upward of 500 picks... a couple on the mantle, some on top of the bookshelf, some on the coffee table, a few on the turntable, a few in the change jar, a few ... well you get the point...

I played in a tribute band for a few years and we played the same club here in town many times between 2002 and 2007. It was also a restaurant during lunch hours.

I had found a place over the stage where I could hide picks and leave them there for the next gigs in case I would need them...

We haven't played there since 2007 and until last summer when they did renovations my picks were still there. I know because everytime I went to that restaurant I took a look and it was still there. I left them there for fun to see how long it would take for someone to find them

I know it's so silly and childish but it was fun! Just felt like sharing

As for the picks, here's a trick (if you can call it a trick...)

My keychain is a little leather bag with a snap especially made to put picks inside. Since obviously I carry my keys everywhere, I always have picks in case I need one. Should be wasy to find on the internet...

peace!

Try breaking your left wrist for a month in a cast. Doc told me 4 more weeks, so I took the cast off with a circular saw.I had to play.

did the same thing. some times you've got to play.

i did some fingerstyle stuff i'd learned playing classical guitar in college, not really my thing. ended up back here though until the wee hours of the morning.

but i'd like to point out the second i got in my car to go to my day job this morning. everywhere i looked i found pcks. in fact there was even one i'd left on a filing cabinet at work.

why i'd need a guitar pick at pizza hut i'll never know.

haha

Also, I'm a drummer and I break sticks all the time. So whinging about a 20c piece of plastic is funny to me. :P
They best option would be to buy 200 picks. However when your in a bind and your in scavenge mode you can try 3 things.

1. check your laundry room or laundry basket.... If you forget a pick in your pocket and then go to wash your pants, chances are the pick or a pick has fallen out of your pocket at some point during the laundry processes.

2. check under your couch cushions..... It's usually a gold mine for picks and loose change..... possibly other things if you have pets or children.

3. Use a "bread pick".... aka the plastic thing that holds your bread bag closed.... don't rip on it too hard though because it will snap in half.

yes and then I ordered 500 picks in bulk. No problems in the last 10 years for me.

And yet somehow Jeff Beck does what he does without one.

But I know the feeling...and I always check my pockets a couple more times, as if it was somehow hiding from me the first time I realized it was gone.

I buy my strings from JustStrings.com. They send a pack of like 5 picks with every single purchase. So I have enough picks to build a small aircraft of some sort.

This is common knowledge, but hopefully it helps someone:

- Matchbook covers make a nice flabby pick which works OK for strumming.
- Cut-up credit cards will make a nice stiff pick.
- Always, always make sure you carry one or two picks in your wallet.

I hate the feeling too. It's like having smokes, but no lighter....

Cheers,
++aldo

You know that small pocket inside the front right pocket of a pair of jeans? That's where I keep mine.

I call it the pickpocket.

Hendrix? He used a pick exclusively.

But, yeah, learn how to fingerpick. It'll open up a whole new world for you.

LoL.

There are those adhesive pick holders. I use them on all my guitars and basses.

Then I have about 100 picks lying around the house. Funny how you always keep using the same one, though. Just buy a bunch of them!

I have a large bowl with a lid that I keep my picks in (along with string winders, string cutters and needle-nose pliers). Every time I go to the music store I buy a dozen or two (or three) of different brands and thicknesses. I also try to stash a few away in "strategic" locations around the house and car ashtray.

Somehow I never lose my picks, because there is a small holder under my computer screen. When I'm done playing, I put my pick right there. That's what I like about dell's screens, they are mounted with a holder.

See the round crease on there? That's where all my picks are

ever notice that when a pick falls out of your hand, it never lands at your feet. It always seems to travel 10 feet across the floor, under the couch or some stupid thing. Little buggers' got legs, I swear.
