My beautiful pitbull is gone

I spent ten hours a day for the past 12 years with my boy Debo. He was sweet, friendly and non-violent. I miss him tremendously.

Ah man so sorry to hear about that Jasper, remember your avatar with him from many years back. I know it's not easy. Always gave me a smile. Strength buddy, sorry for your loss.

Good idea, guys. I'll bring the Debo avatar back. Don't know why I changed it in the first place. Must have started to take myself seriously.

I feel for ya.
It's the same here. Work from home and he is always there. A part of the pack.
My staffy is 11 now and the reality that I only have about 5 years tops left with him weighs heavier each day.

I"m really sorry to hear it. I've always been a bit spooked by pits but he looks downright sweet.

Talking about a loss in your live is already serious enough men. All the best. I know how it feels to lose a good buddy dog.

I'm really not taking it very well. Posting photos everywhere from Facebook to here seems to help a bit. Sure appreciate all the posts in return.

I never trusted pit bulls. Ever. My girlfriend's nephew brought him over for us to watch for a couple of weeks while he moved from Dallas to Austin. "It's kind of an American bull dog," he said. As soon as Debo walked into my house, I was pissed. Great. A meth dealer dog. Just what I need.

But it became apparent that what we had on our hands was Petey from the Our Gang movies. Just a sweet, lovable and very funny dog. We told her nephew we'd rather not give him back. Turns out he was counting on that. He had a Rottweiler and that was enough for him to take care of. He found Debo on the side of the road (a freeway no less) and took him in with the idea of finding him a home.

So he was a lucky dog. Except during the holidays when I'd dress him up for our Christmas cards. I would have never thought that I'd be the dress-up-a-dog type, but I guess I am.

Thanks again for all the well wishes.

Jasper

Man..sorry to hear. Lost our beautiful Sheltie a few weeks ago so I'm familiar with how it hurts. There's a hole that only time will fill. Hang in there my friend.

I'm shedding a tear, Mike.

I'm an owner/lover of an aging lab mongrel who we know has a limited time on this Earth. I know it's going to be very, very heavy when she goes. Love her so much.

In time, the grief won't overwhelm you.

And Debo will always be with you in your heart.

Best to you.

Every post helps. Thanks, guys.

I still find myself reaching my left hand down from my chair in the studio and... nothing.

It hurts. But I'm sure it gets better. And it was definitely worth reaching my hand out and feeling his head, even if he isn't there any more.

Dogs are family. Maybe in time, you will have the opportunity to give another dog a great life.

Mike I feel your loss. Our pets teach us the meaning of "unconditional love." They don't care if you're rich or poor.... handsome or ugly they just want to share our lives.
