Moderator's personal forum?!

At the risk of being banned, I have to ask, why is Lugo using the forum he moderates: "So Much Gear,..." to promote his own project, and make it a sticky?

I know life is not fair, and all, but I just wanted to say I think it's a conflict of interest and a crass use of these forums for his own gain. More to the point, what's the post have to do with gear?

Ban/flame away.

From what I see as an opening for a great opportunity for someone in an industry that has very few, I guess some see as lame self-interest.
Oh well.

Because... and if that's not answer enough, then because no one is forcing you to look at his thread, pay it any extra measure of devotion, be inconvenienced by its existence, or otherwise let it ruin your life... eh?

Are you a musician? I'd think any musician would perceive that sticky as a great opportunity. James gives a lot here, also it's pretty common on other forums that the moderaters can make their own stickys. Not like it's a sticky that says "BUY MY CD!!!"

You don't see it as compromising the democratic nature of the forums? Say I were looking for a singer. Man, I'd really like to be the first post at the top of Gearslutz every day. But only one guy seems to be able to do that.

Felt like moaning.

Thanks for listening.

For what its worth..

I might be annoyed if James were an ass but James is cool so I am not annoyed at all.

Honestly, I never paid it much attention anyway.

Probaby the same reason Michael Wagener gets to sticky his For Sale threads in the Classifieds. Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.

Since you've invited me to do so, sure, I'll flame: you're whining about something that doesn't even affect you, offering no solution, and for the betterment of nothing.

Um, my solution is not to do that and to keep to the subject matter at hand. That would make the forums more valuable to me.

With all due respect, Joel, that's purely semantic. Let me rephrase: "I think that avoiding non-topical posts would benefit us all." Your comment is a great sentiment that I think we all strive for in our own ways. (Except for perhaps one Mr. Collins)

Who ever said Gearslutz was equal or Democratic, or that special perks weren't allowed? What makes you feel as though you should be equal to someone who contributes so much to this forum?

Whoever runs a forum is the DICTATOR of that forum. You don't like it, start your own, and you can dictate to yourself all you want.

It's like going on Myspace and complaining that Tom gets the right to message everyone and you don't.

How about this: I don't like it and I can say so. Who says I have to go away? If the dictator so decrees, I will be banned. I don't think James is so much against my stating my opinion, though, and I doubt he would take my views about this forum as a personal attack. In fact as a gradeschool teacher might say, "I expect more from you."

Never said I was equal. Just sayin'...

I feel it is not in any way a personal agenda. It is a cool way to watch a studio build, and hopefully get people to check out the other studio build area of the site. He does know a lot of people on here, as well, who want to see this.

James is a cool guy, I was at his party during NAMM. He is surely very down to earth and level-headed.

you DO understand moderating these forums is a VOLUNTARY job, right?
I'll take a guess he doesn't get paid to do it.

Would having a simple "sticky" thread, for a little self-promotion to the few thousand regular members and guests that log on to gearslutz, be too much compensation?

Absolutely not.

dead issue.

I have no issues with the thread or the sticky but think that perhaps it should be in the Studio Build section instead of the main page right next to 2 of my favorite threads... Bridge and Manifold! Everything in it's place...
