Arguing With Idiots

Once at a “battle of the bands” show, I was finishing up tearing down my keyboard rig while the guitar player for the next band was setting up in my old location.

I overheard him mumbling to himself and swearing at his rig about how it always sounded like crap. As it was a nice Marshall head and 4-way cabinet, I figured something must be fundamentally wrong. I took a look at the back and saw he had the output plugged into the speaker cabinet with a cheap, thin, Radio Shack guitar cord.

I said, “Dude, you need a speaker cord, not a guitar cord.”

“Huh?”

“Yeah, you know, a speaker cord. Get yourself some cord from a lamp or something and wire up the plugs with heavy, unshielded wire.”

He said, “What do you take me for, an idiot?”

Hmmm. Well I didn’t before, but…

I turned on my heel and walked off. He deserved the sound he was getting.

I once did a triple sow cow before walking off with my nose high in the air.

The scary part is: What was HE thinking when you walked away?!

Ain't no helping the helpless, brother.

But honestly, if you ever seen a dancing pig - you know it's totally worth it.

You can't argue with idiots. They believe in crimes of the professional against society and creativity and the artist's role as saviour and underdog.
Here's their manifesto:
1. The true artist, by nature, is always an amateur and never a professional.
2. In a world populated by experts the artist must be a forever moving target.
3. The professional's violence against creativity and his rewards for his cowardice must be exposed and finally ridiculed.
4. The professional is weak because of his need to be respected, honoured and adored. The true artist, on the other hand, must have the courage to remain unimpressive, shallow and obvious.
5. The lie of originality, the ignorance of its champions and the intrinsic honesty of plagiarism.
6 The inherent provincialism of professionals and the intrinsic cosmopolitanism of the amateur.
7. It is the professional's obsession with good taste that obliterates all creativity. It is actually this fear of life itself that forces the professional to become a neurotic expert and crush the intrepid amateur.

I was at a show 2 years ago and one of my artists was using my bass rig. The foh engineer (I use this term loosely) wants to run an XLR direct off the bass head. I tell him to make sure he uses the DI and not the speaker out. "What do you think I am, an idiot" is the reply I got. So he walks over and plugs in the XLR and POOOOF, the mix board goes crazy and dies! This bass head has 1/4 AND XLR out for speakers ans XLR for DI.
"Yes" I tell him. You are a F*&kin' idiot. Let me repeat myself. NOT THE SPEAKER OUT! The rest of the night was canceled.

Sadly, this guy will probably get more, better paying gigs than any of us, because the world is in love with fukking asshole morons who treat everyone like shit.

Years ago, (many years ago) when we were in a local battle of the bands, we overheard the judges complimenting another group for their cool original song, which rated them extra points in the judging. Their cool original song was not an original song at all, it was the latest Alabama single that the judges had never heard before, because, even though they were judging a C&W battle of the bands, they didn't actually listen to C&W music.

Never argue with an idiot...people watching won't be able to tell which one is the idiot and which one's not.

Better to keep quiet and be suspected a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It is ... on ice skates. And if you haven't seen it before, it's wonderful.

My policy is to fight stupidity with stupidity. One must become one's enemy to truely defeat him.
