Just done the best thing, just deleted my stupid Facebook account, feels so good :-)

Ha, just thinking, I sound like a parody of what I'm bitching about, ho-hum.

It'll be so nice when you see your friends faces grafted to roadsigns in Mexico selling horse manure.

That is one of the first things I thought when I started reading some of my friends posts ! I was thinking OMFG I used to be tight with these people ? Some of the most ludicrous stuff I have read in my life is on there.

No offense, but funny you should write about that under your real name on a completely public internet site....

I'm not exaggerating, thing is, in real life he's an ok guy, ever since he's joined Facebook it's like someones stolen his brain, think I'm going to scrub him from my friends list as I just can't take reading that crap anymore.

On the plus side, it's good to make connections with friends that you've lost touch with and have a real conversation on a phone or meet up.
lol. Agreed. Friends I know who are actually legit people act like total ******s on there. But on the flip, it IS a great networking tool. (Friend-wise I mean, I hate the music spam I get on there from friends of friends....)

You know what's worse than Facebook?
People who think they are so high and mighty that they are apparently 'above' social networking sites.
Not everyone that uses Facebook is an idiot, uses it like an idiot and spends all day there

I agree, it can be a good way of catching up with folks that you've lost contact with thumbsup

I guess thats aimed at me? If so you're wide of the mark, I was referring to those that update their profiles on a minute by minute basis describing the most insignificant details of their lives, I have no interest in reading that, like someone pointed out quite rightly was it's the *Look at me* kind of person that I find tiresome.

Sure, not everyone is an idiot that uses Facebook or any social networking site for that matter, that would be quite a stupid thing to say, take this place for instance, there's some fantastic people on here that won't bore you to tears with their posts, just informative information, then there's the flip side of that coin, people like space2012 for instance, just a wh0re for the limelight, take your pick, I know the kinds of people that I would rather gravitate towards .......

Actually, I'm just about to begin to use these social networking sites for marketing my day job. Leaders in my industry are really high on it.

All that... AND... "Friending" is NOT a competition!!!

OK, I have attained minor industrial celebrity, you've read some stuff I've written.

Great.

Whoo-hoo.

Glad I was able to entertain you for a few minutes.

That doesn't make me your friend, so please don't ask.

I get like 3 or 4 "Friend Requests" a day from people I don't know who are "also friends with" [Famous Recording Engineer name here]. Its annoying. I enjoy Facebook because it has given me the opportunity to keep in touch with people who are my actual friends... like we've had a drink [or 70], we were friends in college [and lost touch], live in different parts of the world [and I'm actually interested that "little Johnny" had a great 5th Birthday party]... not some ****** bag who wants to ask my "real" opinion of [product name here].

Facebook is a few minutes off from audio people for me, or a few minutes of hearing from "audio people" doing non-audio related things... its my time off from playing "advice columnist". If you want advice, its why this place exists... its why I've had my very own forum on ProSoundWeb.com for the last 6 years.

Phew.

That felt good.

Peace.

I myself do get a lot of people "friending" me (wow I must be some kind of industrial clebrity) but not 3 to 4 a day. But I do agree that face book really is a place that I know every single person on it and would rather not have it turn into a "Glenn I got a question for yea". Fletcher maybe you should start one of those fan clubs on there. I am sure it would bust your status. Just a idea for yea.

Love your posts man. Always a good laugh!

The last straw was when a creepy old teacher from high school came trolling around wanting to "get together" in person. I closed my account in the next 15 minutes.
God, it sounds like that old teacher was, as they'd say in the UK, 'gagging for it'!

I expect I've been moderately lucky on FB. I'd joined it in late 2006 or early 2007, and until 4 days ago only had friends or contacts from the Internet and a few folk I've known going back to the early 1990s. I graduated high school in 1982 and had had no contact with anyone from that period (or earlier) until Sunday evening. (No-one's fault but mine, as I've got my real name on there!)

At least that one person was someone I didn't mind hearing from; we had a nice chat and added each other as FB 'friends'. But already in the wake of that there's been one other person from the high school era who spotted me there (who wasn't a friend in the old days) who wanted me to add them as one now. Naturally I didn't reply, and won't. I have no reason to believe there will be any more (if any) trying to pursue me via FB....certainly no epidemic of them expected.
