Toft vs. Oram...

Ok, so this thread is for everyone to discuss the current rift between Toft and Oram, mostly regarding the Trident trademark and also who designed what of the famous Trident consoles in the 70's/80's.

For those that dont know, both Malcolm Toft and John Oram were involved in Trident in the 70's/80's, and some classic mixing desks were the outcome. There was then a split between them and they both went off to persue their own visions. There are threads and email corespondance available on this forum and in the general internet for anyone who cares to SEARCH for them.

As far as my thought's go, i have used an Oram Hi Def and liked it, and also had a long phone conversation with John Oram discussing some of his new products, he was frendly and enthusiastic (and a bit of a salesman - fair enough!). I haven't had any experence of any Toft gear, but by all acounts it is good as well.

I beleive that acrimonious splits are a fact of life (ref - Blue and JZ mics), but I don't beleive that manufacturers should really be airing their differences in public so much. As an end user, all i want is a good product. I don't care what it says on the box, if it works, is good value for money, sounds great, is well built, and does a good overall job then I am happy. I am not that interested in disputes, if there is a problem, let the damn lawers sort it out.

On the whole, competition is a good thing, and if the manufactures spent more time concentrating on making their current product BETTER than the rest, rather than dragging up old disputes, I think we would all benifit.
