Shania Twain's 'Come on Over' is excellent for the Mutt Lange factor. I own it twice as there's the 'International Pop Version' and the 'Country Version', both with different instrumentation, and therefore different production and mixes. The more Mutt Lange/Mike Shipley products the better! However for country songwriting, you should have went for her first album with Mutt 'Woman in Me'.

I love these people that say "oh if you could be nickelback and play all that shitty music in front of hot women and make all that money doing it you would be" Maybe you would, but IMHO real artists would not. Just because one man would be a sellout doesn't mean every man would, we are all not created the same ie Iggy Pop Nickelbacks music sucks, especially their lyrics and it makes my skin crawl. And if you think they write catchy music, your taste stinks....IMHO Everybody wants to be somebody when they are younger, but the smart people grow up and realize the beauty of being nobody. Record companies and execs suck ass, thank god for the internet and digital recording so that all of us nobodies can do whatever we want without being involved with all those tasteless, talentless parasites. |

Quite an ignorant opinion. Considering you've just announced that The Beatles stink, Frank Zappa stinks, Herbie Hancock stinks, Michael Jackson stinks. etc.. etc.. etc.. Liking one band doesn't some up the rest of someones musical tastes...

| Some love for Nickelback!
Really? Really? Someone actually got up in the morning and thought, "man, Nickleback just doesn't get a fair shake... I need to take this message to the streets and defend them!" When waiting in line at the bank, or grocery store, or feeling your skin itch while also standing in line at a Walmart, and Nickleback comes booming through the speakers above your head, or through the windows of the pick up truck with the NoBama stickers, you worry to yourself "man, I just don't think we are giving these guys their fair shake... I mean there might be a small resistance of self rightious smug assholes who for some weird reason reject the ubiquity and omnipresence of Nickleback! Don't they understand their sex appeal? Jesus, I gotta get the word out!" This is a strange place. I have always been amazed by people who are obsessed with audio. I have met many who just listen to production, and the songs attached only seem to get in the way. This is what's wrong. It's not that anyone has better taste or whatever it is people throw around as insults, the thing that is so ponderous about a thread like this is that there are people who feel they need to independently defend something like Nickleback. I could not envision a more marketable, constructed package as Nickleback. It's akin to getting excited about a Toyota Camry. Nickleback is not "art". Oh, sure it has all the trappings of art... In the same way that a framed playboy poster does. It sits on a wall the same way, but was not created for any other purpose other than to be purchased. It's a product. Sure, get hung up on this debate if need be, but arts intent is at least aiming higher (if rarely hitting the mark) than unit shifting. Be on whatever side you want to be on. The world of engineers and production folk can be as bland and singleminded as that of the commercial plumbing supply industry, if you want it to be. We can record whatever we want and get excited about dynamic range and noise floors if we want. Go ahead. I assume the ones who balk at Nickleback are in some small or large way concerned more with facilitating and assisting in the creation of "art". I don't really want to give some list here of what is art or what isnt, but i can say that Im gonna just leap out onto the limb here and argue that NB dosent fit my definition of art. Life is riddled with compromises and we do need to eat, never mind afford mics and outboard gear and whatever other shit we need to do this recording thing, but I like to think there are many who still at least hope to keep the ratio tipped toward "art" and not just commerce. Make a thread about how good a small, unknown, underfed artist is... They might actually need the attention. My dentist can tell me how great Nickleback is... People who love music (nevermind the people who deal with it everyday) should be able to tell more about the obscure and truely remarkable, rather than adding their lil flashlight's beam to music already as illuminated (and unavoidable) as the sun. Don't worry some people are just born with bad taste...it happens. For example, my mom probably likes a few Nickelback songs. Do I hate all the music she likes?...no...she also likes a few REM songs too, but overall her taste in music stinks. What do I listen to? Probably alot of stuff you never heard of, but I name some you have. David Bowie, XTC, the police, The cure, DEvo, Joy Division, the sex pistols, queens of the stone age, Interpol and thousands more. If you want to hear a really cool band go check out a few songs and videos on youtube by "OK GO" they are amazing and the experience may change your life....peace

Lol, just think of Nickleback as [successful) businessmen and move the fu*k on. A lot of people hate Microsoft, too, but Gates has been raking it in nonetheless. So while you hate NB – and I also hate – they know what they’re doing. When you do something that makes you money the smart thing is to keep doing that thing. Don’t take yourself so seriously as to let that insult your art. There’s art and there’s business. They’re businessmen, dude. That fact that they play instruments/music is incidental.
