| I'd still be hesitant before purchasing...............????
At first it gave me a chill, as I recently sold my Genex 9048.
But, this does not mean in anyway that they will keep the promise of new updated hardware, software, and or support.
I liked Kevin and really wanted him to succeed. That's why I invested thousands in his company.
But I couldn't rely on them in case of problems.
And there were a few.
At the time my entire biz was based around this recorder, and as you know, paying clients don't want excuses!
That being said, my Genex 9048 was the best sounding recorder I ever used!

I am very glad that I kept my Genex 9XXX recorders. They sound great(better than any Radar, nagra, tascam, or any other digital machine I have heard), and allegedly there is a firmware update for the 9XX in the works.
I use mine all the time. Love it. Just didnt like the way Kevin dissapeared.

Hello Teddy,
I can think of no more shameful, dishonest and unreliable character in all of pro audio than Kevin Brown. He ruined many a business plan and ruined the business of some very savvy and trusting producers and engineers who bought and tried to trust Genex.
Mr. Brown ran an undercapitalized company that rarely fulfilled its promises. Genex reneged on updates, fixing software bugs, new features that were promised and they did not repair the gear they sold.
Indeed there are stories of Mr. Brown and his cohorts stealing customer machines that were sent to them and re-selling them. Customers even reported that Genex asked them to rent them their machines and then they heard later that Genex had sold their machines to new customers.
Shameful and expensive mistakes. Underhanded business practice.
I only know part of the story. I have heard and learned enough about Genex and Mr. Brown to never offer a word of defense towards their actions.
I strongly believe that your machine is a door stop or boat anchor due to his actions.

I would be a gross mistake to say that Genex/Desono sounds better than a Nagra VI.
The Nagra VI is the most advanced and best sounding recorder in the world.

Breathtaking!

It is really a shame that they pulled the "stunts" that they have and completely destroyed any hope of ever being trusted again because the machine itself is really quite a nice design for remote recording.
Anyway, just wanted to say that I don't think a working Genex is a "boat anchor" but definitely a "boat anchor in waiting" due to lack of any support that can be trusted.

| Genex remote....
Anyone need a remote for their 9048? We still use the decks on occasion (we own 3) , but don't have much use for the remote as all we do is capture recordings.
Contact me at mhl@earthlink.net if interested...thanks
Mark

That being said, my Genex 9048 was the best sounding recorder I ever used! | I agree. we were using Genex converters on "Happy Feet" the movie during recording and mixdown of the score.
We had one converter that had the AES outputs phased reversed internally
all we got from Genex tech support was "thats impossible". Gee that is helpful because it is POSSIBLE.. it is happening to us!
turned out it was a fault internally with an incorrectly fitted ribbon cable, so I was told from another guy on the gig later on.
amazing sounding converters though.

| Run while you can
I've been trying to get a response from Genex/Desono for over three years.
They would have to be the most ignorant, incompetent firm I've ever had the misfortune to try to deal with. For god's sake, I want to try and give the morons some business. Everybody I've spoken to about them can only tell me about their dishonest dealings and the disappointment of having such a great product ruined by a bunch mass debaters

| Desono/Genex Drivers and Software
Both Genex, and Desono's websites are no longer active, but I own some of their equipment (GX9048, D-Mix, and Stage I/O). I made the mistake of not backing up any of the software, My own fault, but a problem no the less. Does anyone know where I might be able to get my hands on any or all of the software for these machines?
Thanks
Chad

I still own a pair of 9048's and should be able to help with the software for that unit.
BTW I gather Kevin Brown is now working for Line 6 so you might try and reach him there. Also Hollywood Sound Systems likely has software for all the Genex products.
Their number is:
323-466-2416.
Good luck.

Yrplace,
Thanks, I will try and call Hollywood. Do you have the USB remote control software. That is what I Need the most. If there is anyway you could email or DropBox what you have to me I would be eternally grateful. I tired of looking at this expensive paperweight, and I want to get some use out of it. I had the hardware remote, and It took a shit on me. Let me know and I can PM you my email.

I am another Genex customer who has gotten caught up in the company's issues. I think Kevin tried to do too much and was overwhelmed. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone found a way to get the Genex control software to work on a newer operating system than Windows XP? I have a old XP laptop I keep around just for use with the GX9000, but I don't know how long it will continue to run. I assume the software itself will install on Windows 7. It is the USB drivers I am worried about.
By the way, I do have copies of what I believe are the latest versions of the control software, manual, and firmware if anyone needs them. I have the GX9000 (8 channel version), so that is the firmware I have.
Thanks.

You might try just running it on an XP(32bit) VM--what I do with an old Akai recorder's transfer software that requires a 32bit USB driver to function. Win7 pro and ultimate come with the built in ability (and license) to run "XP Mode" VM, which is MS's preconfigured Xp VM.
