Making a Beat and Mixing on headphones sucks!

So I got my HD650 headphones and put them on and decided to created a beat from scratch and then mix it all on the headphones. What I noiticed is that it really sounds good while the headphones are on and the bass drum seems to kick nice and every thing sounded decent. So then I take off the headphones and listen on my little volume controlled M-Audio monitors and it just completly sounds like crap. That kick drum no longer hits it just sounds flat and other elements dont sound good either.. So i guess headphones are only good for listening after a song is made? Anyone know of some headphones that would give me a true feel of how something will sound on speakers as well?
thanks

a beat is song with no lyrics just the music, you know like an instrumental track. Like you know Dr Dre makes Beats and sells them to artists .. that kind of beat.

It's because you're headphones have a sub in them and your speakers don't go as low. Also kick drums always sound better when there is vocals.

Sorry I mean that Headphones can go as low as a sub but M-audio speakers can't.
If I was you I'd get some Tascam VLX-8 they are much better for kick drum and vocals.

Pick up an M-Audio SBX to go with your M-Audio Monitors.

NEVER mix on headphones! Just say no!!!!!

Headphones are perfect for checking a mix after you've mixed it but never try to do it all from scratch on cans for that may madness lies.

+1

I never mix on phones either. They're Ok for a rough idea of the song around 4am but definitely take em off when you're getting serious. Although a mate of mine does mix on phones and he's very, very good. I think he views his phones as if it's a room and mixes accordingly.....

No Joe Satriani steals his music from Cold Play if you haven't heard.. Now thats more like sampling. Although Cold play did work with Jay-Z on a Beat on his last album. Now go find that song listen to it and pretend there are no words and then you will understand what a beat is Mr. ! LOL

I am so confused. A beat is made of samples? Samples of other peoples music? How is that writing? How is that an original song?
