I'm sure there's laws against that over the long term if you got caught.

more importantly you'd have to be happy with left-hand drive.

indeed - get caught on the road side and it's potential prison sentence.....I wouldn't go down that route!!

An unregistered car is also uninsured : so that'd hurt too. A criminal offence to be uninsured.

At the end of the day, a £60 fine is not that big a deal, especially in a country as expensive as the UK where it costs £8 a day just to drive through London (without even stopping to park).

Wait a second.. so if you got in your car after the first hour, re-parked, and put a new ticket down you would've been fine? Pardon my yankee ignorance

Like I said, quite a few parking meters and car parks ban feeding, and the easiest way around it is to move your car 25 metres to another spot.
Of course, it ain't always that easy to find another spot in a very busy car park. That's why they've banned feeding in the first place.
But yes, I've frequently got around this by moving my car towards the end of each paid parking period, then paid for another period.

haven't read through this thread, but had to add a story of a friend of mine who has had quite possibly the worst/most unfair parking ticket fine ever. i couldn't quite believe it when he told me, it was laughably ridiculous.

so...here's the short version...

he parked his van in his usual spot outside his house (resident permit holders spot), and all is well. the next day he sees his van is not there and wonders were it is. calls the police and reports it stolen....next day he receives a letter from the council saying his van had been illegally parked and was towed away, he can receive his van for quite a hefty fee (around £100+...). (he calls the police to inform them his car is found, "sorry to bother you" etc etc....) he can't quite understand why he was parked illegally as he has/had the right permit and knows for certain he was allowed to park where he was (he has lived there for over ten years). he mentions this to the towing company and they remain adamant he was in the wrong.... cut along story short he realises the only way forward is to pay the fine and collect his van (and then contest the fine later).

he goes to the depot where his van is..... and!!! his van is totally written off...completely smashed up, almost squashed half the length!....it turned out, his van was driven into by (what seemed like a very large vehicle..at quite a speed) which immediately wrote off his van......and pushed it onto a double yellow line out of his parking space.... which the council decided was a punishable offence! they also decided it was not worth telling him the condition of his van when he called up to retrieve his van........ he is now in the middle of trying to sort this out.

you'll get a fine in most UK car parks. You have to leave the car park for at least an hour - they take registrations on their little computers...

Did your friend see any evidence of any damage near the parking space?
Like for example; broken glass, bits of metal, skid marks or anthing to suggest an accident took place. Were there any neighbours around at the time who could have witness this? As aiff said, "You would have thought that he (or one of his nice neighbours) would have heard a veeeerrrry loud noise."

nope...you would have thought someone would have heard...i guess they're all heavy sleepers round his area...!? and apparently there was only some broken glass...which lead him to believe it had been nicked.

Reading through their second letter again, they have not even acknowledged the existence of the second parking ticket that I put on the car, only the first.

A friend of mine has been up to look at the signs and says there is nothing about not being able to put two tickets on the vehicle.

So the whole issue is simply that my stay exceeded the time allowance of the first ticket.

How can I get them to admit that I put two tickets on the car if they are choosing to ignore the fact? I'm wondering if i typed the reg no. of the car incorrectly on the second ticket? I'm sure id they wanted to they could cross reference the data and find a 'similar' reg no. at the same time, and in the same car park?

28th is the deadline now. No phone or email contact of course.....

I've seen a few news articles from England where the town council decides to ban parking in a particular area, then goes and paints lines around or underneath cars that are already parked there (legally), and immediately gives them a ticket w/o warning.

The road crew painted underneath this guy's car

While they hoisted up this guy's car into the air

I've paid it.

But i'm gonna make some posters up and stick them in the car park, explaining what a set of crooks they are.

I'm not bitter!
