One of the greatest entertainers the world have ever seen, really right up there with James Brown. I can't help but feel sad about his story. But say what you want about this dude but the fact still remains... he was probably one of the best entertainers modern music has ever seen.

Same here, I was 5 back in 83' or so when I saw a short studio footage on MTV, that was the first time I saw a mixing console and was like " oh yeah that's what I wanna do later on in life"

I saw the news late last night and I must admit I didn't slept very well and feel K.O. all day, even on the streets and shops you can feel the sad vibe.

Again, RIP MJ

While I never really enjoyed his music, I do hope that he finally gets some peace. For all that he went through, he did make some impressive contributions to music.I send my regards to his friends and family.

RIP MJ

The first cassette tape I ever bought was "Thriller", I listened to it so much I needed to replace it.

My thoughts to the family and friends. His children have suffered a horrible tragedy, a part of their life died.

Also, thriller is still the best video =O

I watched that video last week and i (On a humorous note) i didn't think it was very fair that in the video he proposes to his girlfriend BEFORE telling her he was a werewolf. Surely honesty is the foundation of a good relationship.

Amazing video and a brilliant talent. RIP Michael. You will always be admired. Always

Michael Jackson and his talent combined with his obsessive perfectionism were the driving force behind those records. Having the best people in the business at his side sure helped, but there wouldn't be a "Billie Jean" if he himself hadn't worked for over a month just to come up with that perfect bass line. And Quincy Jones didn't even want this song to be on the album.

Watch the perfect liquidity of his dance moves, listen to the animated phrasing when he sings, watch this incredible stage presence when he performed live. Listen to all those great songs he wrote himself.

I haven't really been a fan since I was a kid, but this guy was an extraordinarily talented and really hard working artist. Compared to everyone out there today, but also compared to the legends from the time before him.

I listen to all kinds of music, and some of MJ's songs are right up there with the best ever made IMHO. Perfect powerful, funky pop music.

I feel sorry for you.
Every person is a living, breathing, one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
You're inability to see that fact does not mean it isn't so.

We give special attention to entertainers because when they are really good,
they have the ability to help us escape from our troubles for a while.
Some are so talented we feel like they are our family.
When we lose such a family member, it hurts more than a death of someone we don't know.
We feel the loss.
People love entertainers because they make us feel better, when we're not able to do it ourselves.

Instead of "thinking about the person who has died today and will not be remembered", look around and think about the loved ones you care about.
Try to notice how special they are to you and enjoy every minute you have with them.
Life is too short to do anything else...

unbelief was also what i saw yesterday night when the news spread as a virus arround trough the Ghent nightlife ... I've red it on the internet (facebook) while being on our radio station arround 23h30 our local time and we couldn't do nothing else than do a short news bulletin and shout out to MJ.

altough his personal life was troubled by all kind of stuff, he's still one of the biggest performers of all times and influenced my generation and those behind very strongly, and this in all kind of music styles, classses, races and nationalities.

Even I learnt how to do the moonwalk back in the day as a kid. I was even in a cover band that played "Beat it" which features a great classic Eddy Van Halen guitar solo. A classic Michael Jackson performance that will always be etched in my memory was the 1983 Motown 25 Billy Jean performance.

R.I.P Michael Jackson

Not only is Mike the greatest, the Michael marathons have made me want to make music again. They remind me of why I got into this..

After hearing Michael back to back, I'm noticing how well produced the records were all over again. The songs were beautifully written and they all highlight Mike without the production "getting in the way". It's what I've always strived for and I'm reminded of it now again.

RIP MIKE.

THE GREATEST.

Excellent post! The one thing that people seem to take for granted is that he worked hard to build upon his innate talent until he had honed it to a razor's edge. Yes, he was gifted--amazingly gifted--but it was his hard work and dedication that put him over the top.

Cheers,

You young kids cry and get all your tears out now, you'll be dreaming of him walking along doing the Billy Jeam video, and thinking it was the equivalent of the Stones and the Beatles, laughable, just laughable.

What this thread really shows is the great gulf between age groups on this forum. We older guys grew up listeing to the Who, the Beatels, Zep, the Stones, while you young kids think the Top 40 dance crap was real artsitic music. More power to you, cry your eyes out then, by all means. us older guys think that Thriller was the beginning of the end of real music, with real guitars and real drums, doing real rock&roll. How sad that anyone can put MJ on the same level as the Stones, the Beatles, Zeplin, Hendrix.... It's just sad that the kids don't know what their real Rock&roll heritage is. Yeah, top 40 dance stuff like Thriller is just classic Jam, sure, lol. This thread is really about young guys tryng to tell older guys what real artistic music is, it's a generation gap thread, that's what it is. Hmm, Thriller, or Allman brothers live at the Filmore, I'll take the Allman brothers every day of the week, to bad you kids don't know the difference between the two.

anywayz....

too many memories with MJ playing in the background... not a fan, but a lifelong admirer.

Stones ,Joplin, Doors, and Hendrix suck IMO and Im and OLD guy. Bunch of noise garbage. Druggies who died too soon. Next youll tell us Mick can sing. Next youll be saying James Jamerson didnt have the right feel and Bob Babbitt couldnt groove cause he was a white guy. No gap here. Ill take Motown and classic R & B anyday. You know where they can actually SING. Sounds like your just nostalgic for your era which is what your accusing this generation of BTW

Rock on.

Very sad news..

Good piece in the Telegraph with one particular paragraph that hit me:

The death of someone so famous shakes us to the core, because it is like a death in the family. Love him or loathe him, Michael Jackson was part of the fabric of all our lives. Or maybe worse, it is like the death of a God, a sudden unexplainable absence in the mythos of the times. President Kennedy, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Lady Diana: these are the kind of deaths that confront us with our own mortality, the realisation that the end is unavoidable, death stalks us all, no matter how anointed by the fates. Such a death is usually greeted with a kind of incredulity. But this is it. This is really it.

I think its such a shame to loose someone so unique. He and his music were just on another level.

Lets hope there's some unreleased songs to come forward......
