Having to be on the side of someone who's wrong

Well, I'm not really going to go into the long detail of what's happened, but basically it's just annoying me I have to be on the side of someone in my family, even though I feel the person on the other end did nothing wrong - so I have to lie about how I feel about people just to make them happy.

It's really starting to get to me now.

My frozen dairy beverage bringeth all the gentlefolk to the yard, and they claim, "Surely, 'tis better than thine! Surely, 'tis better than thine!" I'd instruct you, though I must levy a fee.

Your family member should understand your point of view as well, and not expect you to always have to side with them, regardless of the situation.

It's not the person that's in the wrong I'm in fear of offending, it's the guilt trip I'd be sent on by my parents and other relatives for doing so.

There's enough conceit in the world already, speak the truth and stand by it too, always

Without knowing the situation, it sounds like a bad decision.

Lying usually gets you down the road. Truth is usually a good thing.

There are situations where this rule does not apply (you don't tell a fat person "you're fat!" for example). But, it's a good general rule to live by.

Swallow hard, speak the truth.

The difference between telling white lies to make people feel better and straight up telling the truth is that people will like you if you tell a white lie but they'll value your opinion if you tell the truth. Granted, you don't have to be a dick when telling the truth, but in the long run people value honesty a lot more than meaningless words tossed out to make them feel better. And the worst that will happen from you telling the truth to people you care about is that if they subconsciously want to be lied to about something they won't come to you to get the hard truth. No loss there.

You have got to be able to live with yourself, man....

It is one thing if you "don't go there" on certain issues, but you have got to be able to look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day.

Try to be calm about it, but sometimes wrong is just wrong.
