American Idol, 1 down 2 to go.

I know, I know, there is a lot of GS think its sucks to begin with, well you may be correct but it seems to be one of the best years if they were ever a best....haha.
I hated to see Allison go tonight, even though Kris kicked ass last night with come together. Now they are 3 guys left, this is very hard to pick since I did not expect Allison to leave this week. Adam is great but who wants to hear screaming in every song, Kris is good but I'm still not in sync with this guy just yet.
I really think that Gokey will get a big deal, maybe with a christian market, he fits the bill bigger than anyone I have ever heard, but I don't think he is the AI. I think we had 4 strong Idols but all very different, a sad loss with Allison gone tonight, she was so natural, could have grown into something big and I think she will, to be honest I think she will come on top when its all said and done just not the AI.

Well, this is the second season that I sit down to watch, and I think it will be my last. What started as healthy curiosity about a country-wide phenomenon ended as quite a disappointment. If this was one of the best years, I shudder to imagine what previous seasons were like.

That said, I think your comments are spot on. Danny will probably excel in the Christian/worship market; Alison will probably succeed beyond some of the top-3 and Adam will be the AI. I think anyone could have made that call weeks ago, seeing how that boy is sooooo flamboyant and over-the-top on the stage.

All-in-all, it probably was a waste of my time, but it was a great chance to sample what's selling (and of course, wonder aloud "WHY-OH-WHY?").

Cheers,
++aldo

There's plenty of examples of that (i.e. an act with so-so sound, but impressive stage presence gets signed while great musicians with so-so looks are overlooked by the mainstream). At least that's what the AI machine is banking on.

Besides, I really don't think that you and I are AI's target demographic. When I was younger, I knew what all my faves looked like (magazines, TV). In fact, when I was really young, I liked several artists purely because of the way they looked on stage (Kiss and the Rolling Stones come to mind).

I think what boggle most people minds is how streamlined and downright insulting to true artistry the process has become. My pet peeve about AI, however, isn't the "AI machinery", which I have come to take for granted in the Industry, but the THEME SONG. It is the epitome of the super-dumbed-down rock/techno riff with exactly ONE chord.

In fact, the AI theme reminds me of the incidental music in the movie Idiocracy. If you haven't seen it, you should rent it. It's a dystopian futuristic comedy. In two scenes (at The House of Representin' and the "Rehabilitation" Show), they include a "choir" of electric guitarists playing a one-chord riff, which illustrates how dumb humanity will become in the future (the main theme in the movie). These riffs sounded a lot like the AI theme....

Cheers,
++aldo
