WTF RMG TAPE no fun at all

So Today i've used my first RMG 911 1/2" tape, i've got a box of six.
I've read the rumours about shedding, but most of those threads were from a couple of years ago.
And RMG is easy in supply here.
WELL THE RUMOURS ARE STILL TRUE, this thing sheds like crazy, so much muck on the heads that the volume is gone.
I need to look after every 3 plays of a song if it's still okay.
no way to work like that, i've still got 5 of these left no way will I even think of using them.
I'll be mailing RGM tonight, first need to vent here so I can be nice to them later :p
bunch of...

I know of a guy who has 154 new reels of original Emtec 911 tape for sale, 762 m of two inch tape. He also has almost 200 brand new big reels of 2"with 1500+m of tape.

I can't buy the whole lot of it, but damn, these are brand new original 911 tapes from a bankruptcy.

And btw, good tape doesn't sound like tape - it just doesn't sound digital.

what do you mean by this?
If you are talking about the tapes they are newly manufactured
If you are talking about working with tape fuuck
and as far as the industry is concerned, It does not own me, so It can't get rid of me.

I've worked only with Quantegy up till now, but yes the real Emtec stuff might be better than this supposed to be Emtec.
The guy seems pretty well stocked :p

The folks at RMGI told me to contact the supplier to possibly exchange the tape, as they said they had some problems like that with earlier productions.
Now I think they are new from the factory as the supplier ordered them there as he had no in stock, so I will be giving them the batch nummer but i'm a bit sceptic about how this is going to turn out don't think RMG is for me.
but at least all is not lost, RMGI is responding quickly and politely as I wrote to them nicely as well.

less polite fuuck Riccardo for moving this
did not know that pointing out or experiencing problems with products of manufactures is for the moanzone although I moaned a bit yesterday that's true!

I'll go even farther and say I don't trust the condition of any of the complainer's tape recorders. Are they in good condition? OR. . .are they beat newbie fixed machines?

Your supplier could have had this tape in his ? "warehouse"? for years before selling it to you. Did he store it properly?

Look, there just isn't that much bad tape out there so I am skeptical.

I run hundreds of reels of RMGI SM900 per year and have never had a problem.
Are you a member of the bashing brigade?

The supplier does not have a stock and ordered it from RGMI
My tape machine is set up properly (not by me but by someone who repairs them for a living)
And the last quantegy reel I had that I used two weeks ago and all other quantegy reels prior to that did not show anywhere near this amount of shedding.
after a long day of recording only mild muckage would be on my Q-tip.
At the moment after a few playbacks the Q-tips are black.

Hush Plush

although I must say the reels behave different from the quantegy ones so It could be that I need to setup tension different?

And why would I be a hater or basher as I desperately want it to work so I have Tapesupply close by.

I hate to agree with PLush but we use quite a lot of RMG 1/2" and haven't had any issues so far.

I must say i'm very pleased with the sound and the hiss and they sold this to me as replacement for quantegy 456 but it stays cleaner in sound except that it makes everything very dirty :(

I'm working it out with RMG, sent them the batch number.

I put on an old quantegy and played that a couple of times... nothing!!! yeah teeny weeny amount if I cleaned it afterwards but with the RMG plenty of q-tips are black.

so i'm sorry i'll continue to moan about this as I don't really like this situation.
If they won't exchange the tapes that's a few hundred euro's down the drain.
Never fun.

Of course they WILL exchange your tapes for ones that do not exhibit any problems. I'm
sure that RMGI will not be happy until you are happy.

In the meantime, clearly you can only receive satisfaction here on GS in the MOAN ZONE.

The sound of the SM900 we are running here is magnificent. 15 ips, custom "Stellamaster" eq on a Stellavox super machine.

I too had problems with RMGI tape - just 2 simple reels.

Plush is 100% correct, a certain online supplier indeed had sketchy stock.

I emailed RMGI, and they shipped replacements to me for free.

Batchainpuller78, I'd be curious to know how this turned out. If you are still having a problem with shedding, there are other possible reasons other than bad tape.
