Monster Cable at it again.. Now suing Monster Transmission

Hello again..

I'm back with another Monster Cable post, unfortunately. If you haven't read the one about Monster Mini Golf then just visit this link right here.
Monster Cable suing "Monster Mini Golf"!

Well, the monsters over at Monster cable are now suing an automotive transmission company. They'll never learn and are smearing their own name in order to "protect" it. I cannot describe my hatred of this company. Anyway, here are the links.

You know what to do.

I just wrote an email to Best Buy boycotting their store. Sweetwater is next. Maybe by taking sales away from their retailers in this economic enviroment will apply some pressure.

Did Monster Golf ever get their fees paid like Monster Cable said they were going to?

This is where I wish I was a multi-millionaire and could buy some nationawide advertising to inform the public of this nonsense. This company is a disaster.

I wish I could say I was shocked but unfortunately I am not. I knew it would just be a matter of time before these guys would slide back into their habit of suing others to keep the back door revenue streams flowing.

Monster Cable learns nothing, sues Monster Transmission

See, I 100% predicted this. Noel Lee is a lying turd. He had every opportunity to drop the Monster Transmission lawsuit after filing it last year. It's April, and he hasn't done it.

Didn't take long, now, did it? Did you ask him to explain his other lawsuits to you when you met him? Did you ask for some kind of verification that even the active lawsuits were dropped? No, because you were only worried about your own legal bills. So, when you were asking for donations and public support, you were really only asking everyone to help you. It wasn't about you standing up to a bully for the betterment of everyone. It was about your problems.

I told you then, and I'm telling you now, you shouldn't have made any public appearances with him. It was just free publicity to make that asshole seem like a reasonable person. Shame on you for buying that lying sack of shit's promises, and helping him to undo the negative publicity that he earned. You gave him free positive publicity and let him off the hook. I'm sure it was a good deal for him. On behalf of the other Monster victims, present and future, "thanks for nothing".

I'll bet Patrick doesn't respond to this, because his lawsuit is over, and that's the end of it for him.

Actually, I think the Internet's doing a great job as is. Outside of the "sucker born every minute," I doubt that anyone with a modicum of tech savvy would buy their stuff.

Trust me, I am watching it already. As soon as I saw this come up again, I fired off a message to the Monster folks and here is the response I got. I'll continue to check into it. I believe from their response that they are truly listening to you all. Let's give them a chance to show they are doing the right thing.

Thanks

Monster does not have an issue with Monster Transmission. We advised our outside attorneys several months ago to resolve the matter and they are in the process working that out with Monster Transmission’s attorneys. This case was filed last year, before the Monster Mini Golf Matter was settled. We have learned from our experience with the fallout from the Monster Mini Golf matter that we can be “legally” right in the protection of our trademark, but wrong in the eyes of our customers.

We now know we have to balance protecting trademark rights with the opinion of our customers. We will always consider and value the opinion of our customers.

If Chuck would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact me.

They should be concerned. News travels fast on the internet, and it doesn't take long for a company's reputation to become seriously tarnished. Monster Cable has garnished a very ugly reputation over the last few years (well deserved IMO).

Even though it sounds like Monster is going to do the right thing, they have already lost my business for life as well as most of the other engineers I know.

I don't believe they have ever even suggested doing the "right thing". The "right thing" would be dropping the registration for every single trademark for which they do not actually offer a product. The "right thing" would be immediately dropping all legal action against anyone whose actions don't directly impinge on an actual product that they sell. Anything less is an attempt to stifle the marketplace. That is unacceptable for any company - and in particular one that is not even incorporated in the United States.

I also attach a letter from Kurt Denke of Blue Jeans Cable, which I believe illustrates many salient points about Monster Cable's tactics. Enjoy.

Agreed.. It seems they are at least being more reasonable than they were with the Mini Golf people.

And yeah... The Blue Jeans guy is awesome. Worth a read for anyone who hasn't read it already.

Mate, what is your problem? Do you have any particular reason for dumping on the Monster Mini Golf people like this? You should be happy that someone had the guts to stand up to Noel Lee and actually see some change. Monster suing someone else is Patrick's fault...how????

I'd really like to think you just had a rough day, and that you're not flaming someone who fought a sometimes harrowing legal battle just because you're an idiot. tutt

Wow....fired off a message!!!!! He will continue to look into it..... How about you just drop the stupid product line?
Any company that actually thought that this type of legal action was "OK" should be dropped by another company with ethics. I can't believe that you can't find ac omparable product line. Well, actually I can after reading their ridiculous claims.

And no, I am not giving them the benefit of the doubt after years of this type of behavior.
Do the right thing and drop the line.

Having problems with selective reading syndrome? There is an ocean of difference between sentiment and substance, and I see you're having difficulty distinguishing the two.

Tell me exactly what "change" Monster Mini Golf accomplished for anyone other than themselves. Noel Lee is still suing people whose businesses have absolutely nothing to do with any product he sells. He didn't even drop the irrelevant claims that were active at the time of the Monster Mini Golf settlement. Noel Lee handled Monster Mini Golf exactly the way he's handled every single other adversary. He reaches an "agreement", has a nice meeting where he gets his opponent to say everything is great, and when the spotlight is off, continues business as usual.

Seriously. Tell me exactly what "change" was accomplished.

Where is Monster Mini Golf's outrage at having been duped? Where is their public statement in support of Monster Transmissions? Where is their statement demanding an end to these practices?

Patrick asked for public donations and public support. When he got what he wanted, he asked the public to stand down and be "patient". If you want public support, you have to offer something in return. You can't just walk away because you got what you wanted. You can't walk out of a meeting saying you achieved "change" when the only "change" was an end to your own problems.

The way I read it, they are going to try to negotiate some compensation from the transmission company for the usage of the name "monster." If this wasn't the case, shouldn't it have been easily dropped by now? It takes "several months" to file a dismissal? Hardly. Maybe Monster Transmission doesn't intend to roll over and play dead?

Cheers,

I'm happy to report that my studio doesn't have any monster cable (or behringer) products. I was given a short monster cable speaker cable a few years ago but one of the 1/4" connectors broke quickly. Even though it was covered by a warranty, I tossed it. A-holes selling over-priced crap is what I think of MC.

Everyone who owns Monster cables should break their cables and cash in on a free replacement cable (lifetime warranty). Then break that cable, and replace it. Then break that one. Do that a few times per week.

Or just start boycotting the dealers that carry Monster Cable.
