Trent Reznor calling it quits?

It looks like NIN has thrown in the towel?!?! Read the post dated 2/16/09 on NIN.com

If it is true, and Trent is closing down the NIN shop, I for one will be terribly bummed. NIN has been a huge musical influence on me through their 20 years. Trent's music is not for everyone, but unique for for sure. I'm glad I got to see them on this years Lights In The Sky tour, and lucky enough to meet Trent and the guys backstage and get the band to sign the tour poster in Manchester, NH. I hope it's not the end cuz I will be real sad... :(

But if it is, then best of luck Trent, you deserve the time off.

Agreed.

Plus, once an angst-ridden outcast goes to rehab and starts pumping iron, you KNOW it's over!

I respect him but he sounds like a drama queen desperately looking for ways to drum up attendance to his "goodbye" tour....

Love "broken". "downward spiral" is solid.

Everything after that has gotten progressively whinier and more boring.

NIN sounds fantastic, their production is top notch. NIN's songs, however, don't speak to me so much anymore.

Maybe he's just copying Ministry one last time and realizing he's done?

NIN is still better than half the crap that's popular today. I like when my little Cousin listens to NIN, because it keeps him away from boring metalcore like Lamb of God and Job for a Cowboy.

I thought there were bits of "Ghosts" that were his best stuff in years... I'm also a fan of the old-school, but in my mind that was a bit of a return-to-form. Maybe it was just wishful thinking...

The Fragile was his magnum opus, imo. And from that tour grew a whole new attention to detail in live performance production. I can understand how that can be draining. To want to take it further but constantly get older is a true struggle.

I seriously doubt we'll see him give up production, but probably more collaborative efforts a'la Saul Williams.

But my mind's eye thinks that Trent just knows for certain what the rest of us can only fear, that the end of the world as we know it is near.

edit: shit, that was michael stipe who called that.

I actually feel that The Slip is one of the best albums he's done. And you can't beat free.

I hope Trent doesn't call it quits. He is by far the best performer I've ever seen live. The Fragility 2.0 tour was the best concert I have ever seen, ever. I've seen NIN 3 times live and each time they've been great. The sound and vibe has definitely evolved over the years, but I think he's great and the band always sounds so tight. The last tour he did, I got to see some of the instrumental stuff played live from Ghosts and it was very cool.

"The Hand That Feeds"
was the best cover of "You Really Got Me".

I guess if you're into rock it's hard not to echo the Kinks now and then.

I really enjoyed NIN's recent work, and I hope this "sabbatical" is a good experience for him.

How about this : maybe he's quitting cause he's going bankrupt ?

Maybe giving all your music for free, and doing a concert show that costs you more money than it brings back, isn't such a good idea after all , even if it makes you a "hero" to your audience, and an icon to the "PeeToPee Rulez " crowd?

Dunno...I'm just wondering...

EDIT: i'm hearing it's not a rumor.. seems he can't pay his guys anymore...

Oh my god that is sad... Pretty Hate Machine still is for me one of the best stuff he's done, I'm a diehard NIN fan... Too bad it's over :(

he should at least keep doing sound design....

ghosts and the slip have incredible textures and for me that's missing in lots of new music.

the TERMINATOR trailer proves that "the fragile" was just as good if not the best work he's ever done....

I think it was his most vulnerable and powerful work.

I think it's no coincidence that it's also his most criticized album.

In my opinion, it's hard to beat a NIN concert. I personnally enjoyed all his work.
I'm glad he found his way out of drugs, even though the albums he did on them were excellent. But I definitely prefer him doing different albums than killing himself like Kurt Cobain, for example.
