I was getting ready for a session and my computers power supply exploded. Now I have to take my hard drives over to a friends house to see if i lost 2 months of work. (yes I know, i should back up more frequently) and, I have to order a bunch of parts from newegg and then rebuild my computer before getting started again. sux.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. I went through the same hell a couple of months ago. My son goes strolling by my Mac, and sees the pretty blue light glowing on my UPS. *Doink* He kills the power switch. Normally not a big deal, but since I was in the middle of a disc verify as routine maintenance, he killed my hard drive. And, since he was only 2, nothing I could do to exact my wrath upon the little demon. I lost 3 month's worth of work, including scratch tracks, ideas, emails, plug-ins, patches, software ... everything. Granted, I wasn't working on something that had to be done TODAY, but still .... A week and $300.00 later, I got a new hard drive, and a month later, I was back to where I was. If a power supply dies on you, there's really nothing to do but go down to the bar anyway. The good part is, my son now steers well clear of my desk. Looks like he'll make it to 3.

I do feel a little bad for you, but you have now learned a painful lesson most computer users have to learn. You must have everything you are working on in more than one place. There are a million and one ways to lose your data forever. I keep two exact duplicates on two separate external drives of everything I have done or am currently working on. When you back up after every session, it doesn't take much extra time. These days there are lots of smart backup programs that replace files intelligently, reducing backup time even further. I like ChronoSync and rely on it when backing up film sessions that can be upwards of 100 gigs. You can edit, record, add sfx all day and then fully back up everything super fast. |

| Right - unless your PS took something out with it (not that common in my exp) a new supply should get you back on the road in no time.
