Why cant SOME of YOU stay ON TOPIC when posting here on GEARSLUTZ?

Ive seen this so many times on this board and it is one of the most annoying things about this place. So many take a thread and turn it into a separate discussion about something else.

I understand that sometimes you want to pop in and say something - but too often things take a diffirent turn and you seriously **** up the thread for the original poster.

Take a look at my UAD Harrison 32C EQ thread for example.

Prime example of a few that cant keep on topic and turns the thread into something else. I even posted that I thought everyone should try and stay ON TOPIC. But I guess they did not understand what that means.
All in all, its a good thread with good feedback - with the exception of some keyboard warriors gone wild.

So.. why cant some of you keep on topic? Is there a physical problem with you? a mental problem? Please do share so that the rest of us can try and give you suggestions on where you can find help or treatment for your problems.

Thanks.

I've just got off the phone to the bank.

Now I'm going to visit my mum.

After that? I'm undecided.

the thing with mental problems is that they just don't clean my car. The whole wheels thing gets in the way. That's exactly what I mean - the brakes just don't cut the mustard. Terrible stuff, mustard....just not the ticket. whcih is precisely what I meant.

And MACs are best, RME is awesome and Logic stole all it's ideas from BMW.

Attention Deficit Disorder or just complete lack of respect for the OP, you pick. Really self centeredness/selfishness is the root cause, ME ME ME!!!!

99% of what is said here is opinion only. If what was said was agreed upon by a good 90% then I would take heed to the counsel. However, ask what Monitors to use and youll get 100 diff opinions room being equal.

This is simple. All threads on GS go one of two directions:

1. Tangent- Whole original thread thought is lost as someone takes it for a ride

2. Pissing match - This verses that, My DAW is better than your DAW,

I agree with you. A certain amount of deviation is ok but when the thread becomes so routed it gets on my nerves too. Especially when I've searched for the info only to find that my results yielded totally irrelevant comments. In the end, a forum will run like a fine engine all depending on how heavy-handed the admin moderation is. Users generally don't care.

You can report off topic / thread hijacking to moderators.

Moderators have a hard time being 'all seeing' especially on the largest faster paced forums. So we rely on members that care about the forum to use the report a post function (its the "!" in a triangle on each post)

On that subject, we very rarely ever thank people for reporting posts (or spam) so this is a good time to say THANKS VERY MUCH to people that DO report thread wrecking behavior.

Everyone messing around in the posts above is banned for 1 second..

Kidding aside.. The forum admin and all moderators are keen to crack down harder on forum members that make it their hobby to do a lot of 'thread spoiling' here.

The report a post function (the ! in the red triangle) is the best way to go - as it takes moderators to the exact post that offends...

We never reveal who reported something - and anyways if its really idiotic MANY people report the same post..

A reminder..from the FAQ of other stuff that should get reported to moderators

What is not allowed in posts?

Racial hatred is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

"Locker room" language, porno phrases, language that is offensive to women or overt 'sex play' language is not allowed on the site. Posting pornographic images is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Posting MP3's of music that you don't have permission for is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Reference to and links to pirated ('cracked') software or websites that make pirate software available for download, is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

The posting of private emails, business emails, legal disputes, court documents, lawyer letters is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Any post or thread breaking any of these rules, (or posts that contain quotes of text / reference to text that breaks these rules) may be subject to editing or instant deletion by moderators.

PLEASE NOTE: This can result in valuable information being lost due to moderators cleaning up these disallowed or 'flame war' posts.

It is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN for anyone to have more than one forum membership (Discovery of alternate or bogus identities will result in a BAN from the site.)

If you see anything that goes against these rules - please alert a moderator as soon as possible or use the "contact us" link at the bottom of every page. Members refusal to adhere to this rules may lead to a suspension of that members ability to participate on an individual forum. It is recommended that people new to internet forums read here to learn more Netiquette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thank you - Gearslutz.com admin
