Yeah, you're right...it's a tough call...funny,when Kanye first came on the scene, my thought was that he was the new Diddy.

They should get a sitcom together or maybe a buddy movie of some sort.

I think Kanye was basically singing along with the lipsync track.

A funny aside...while watching Beyonce perform, my girlfriend says: "Hey, she's not even singing! She's just gyrating her booty and showing the world that she knows how to f**k! Her Mom must be proud." And I'm thinking to myself - "Yeah but pay attention!"
yeah,what a waste.
My shoes have more"soul" then she does.

Yeah, I might suggest enjoying Beyonce when your girlfriend is in the other room or out the house.

I respectfully disagree ... Diddy says "thats right" in his songs with alot more emotion than Kanye

I think I was unclear. I thought that she was unbelievable. That was my point. When I meant to say was that comparing a talent like her's to the shite that we have now, I get saddened.

I thought she was unbelievable.

Thanks for clarifying. I agree she was incredible and offered a striking contrast to much of the other "talent" on display at the AMAs. Most of the other performers seemed to be "entertainment personalities" whose purpose is commerce and whose physical image is their brand.

Nonetheless, I refuse to believe rock and roll is dead. But I also refuse to believe the Jonas brothers will have anything to do with its salvation. Maybe it's time for another grunge revolution?

The guy has autotune on his voice on CD's, so it would make sense they broke out the autotune box for his live performance, unless he was lipsynced to a pre-recorded track.

I didn't watch the AMA's because i think these awards shows went down hill the day they handed Eminem an award. But that's another story.

NO NO NO nO NO..... this shows a complete lack of understanding what goes on in music. The Jonas Bro's and M. Cyrus's of this world are ENTIRELY OWNED and pimped product. Kanye, for all his flaws, is his own artist. HE is in charge of what he does. Like it or not he is the real deal. I loathe Nickleback BUT at least they are doing things THEIR way. The problem with Cyrus et Jonas is they are NOT artists at all. They don't even know they are. They are the kind of act that are almost entirely responsible for the popstars/ fame academy attitude that many see. Utter fodder and completely driven by the wallets of management - absolutely no genuine or even desired artistry in their at all. Yes it's okay to like them. No it;s not okay to champion them as some kind of "right thing" with the industry. They are a fine example of PRECISELY what NOT to do if you want to preserve some kind of importance or artistry in the business.

As I say, liking them is one thing - but endorsing their artistry unfortunately showcases really what's wrong.....Jonas Bro's are successful because marketeers aim them at 16 year old who see that they can be "just like them"......

As someone who works IN the music industry - I can assure you - 90% of us are being ruined by the 10% that work acts like Cyrus et al.....lawyers and investment funds.

as someone who have worked with JB's first hand (or as narcoman calls the "10%"... but neither lawyer or funds), i can assure you that they are NOT 100% live. altho they do sing live for the most part.

that said, i kind of see the attitude of assisted track playback and autotuning not unlike when distortion was introduced back in the day - not exactly liked by everyone, but it's just a stylistic choice that is not gonna go away anytime soon. some acts today can benefit from these techniques, some REQUIRE it. but it's all in the packaging, and many (usually non-audio types) find it easier to digest. i say learn to adapt to it, or get left behind.

Actually a light vocodizing of any out-of-tune melody just gives a total crappy mess...

This cute model, awesome, rich young guy Totally stinks like S**T at singing.

Face it. Cheers.

These three sentences summarize the current state of pop music more perfectly than anything I've ever heard.

I agree with you concerning the Jonases and Miley, but if we're assigning blame for the current state of the music industry, I claim that the appearance of the words "Kayne" and "artist" in the same sentence is equally at fault.

Seriously?
I agree that he comes across as an asshole and can't sing, but let's see if anyone on this forum can come up with something anywhere near as engaging and beautiful as "Streetlights" on the new album.
Or get Lil' Wayne to rap on a track that doesn't have a drum beat. Who's even doing that?
His new record definitely has problems, but it's the first one I've paid any attention to. At least he's trying to push his art in new directions. All artists are bound to stumble once in a while when doing so.
