IMDB for music...

I love IMDB, getting to see who did absolutely everything on movies. I haven't been able to find such a page for music. I want to know who produced and engineered and played on what? Any ideas?

allmusic.com or wikipedia are going to be your best bets. i think allmusic fell out of relevance with their new site design / slow web server though, so right now there isn't anything really all-inclusive. there are also a lot more indie musicians than there are indie film makers..

Ugly interface, but it's the most user-friendly. Plus you can update it yourself, so if someone adds a release and fails to credit you, you can add yourself in.

There's also Last.fm if you're only looking for general info & such.

Bump

Kind of an old thread, anything new on this? And why is this in the Moan Zone?

I'm looking for something with detailed info on industry professionals; all of these sights seem to be really artist-centered, and rarely feature any info on the engineers or producers. When you do find mention, the info seems to be anecdotal at best...

I'm really surprised there isn't a database out there with detailed bios on audio professionals, that readily displays their credits and such in the same way that IMDB lists off the various projects related to Directors, Producers, Studios, etc...

Any ideas?

In light of the general public's waning interest in supporting 'the industry', you'd think a highly publicized website database like this would make 'the biz' more accessible and relevant. Might help avoid situations like what's happening to Abby Road right now.

This is a great idea and it's surprising that something like this doesn't exist - and I mean in the vein of web 2.0. IMDB is a great site, I have a few issues with some of the commenting system which is a little passé but the information available is really good and well implemented. I go there often (probably every day and other people I know feel the same). Discogs looks and alas acts like a 1990s website.

I am sure the guys that made imdb have profitted massively from what is essentially a site up there with wikipedia in terms of visits - in fact:

imdb.com - Site Info from Alexa

So - yea bring it on.
