Very visceral yet not overtaking the rest of the mix. Definately one of the best mixed rock songs out there, but don't take it from me, listen to the entire album. I've heard many good things about their latest showcase.

I would say they are one of the top rock bands, but they aren't the only band I like, AC/DC and Eskimo Joe are also very good in my books.

My favourite music is electronica, with a bit of interspersed grand/electric piano and acoustic/electric/bass guitar and saxophones thrown into the mix. Tori Amos "Scarlet's Walk" is probably my favourite album, but I enjoy celtic music, I'll listen to Enya, Moya Brennan, Clannad, and Loreena McKennit any day.

I agree completely. I used to dislike them, but then as I dove deeper into my studies of production and writing, I've really grown to like them. There is just so much "right" about Nickelback and the team of guys they surround themselves with. It's stellar.

Regardless. I really can't stand all but one or two of their songs.

I hate Nickelback... His voice annoys the crap out of me. I'm a Theory of a Deadman fan all the way. Nickelback and Simple Plan are a disgrace to Canadian music.

Their new album is so unoriginal it hurts. If you want to hear original stuff, rock music isn't the way to go these days. I'll stick with RNB/Pop (Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake/Timbaland, Ne-Yo). Now that is good music, especially Ne-Yo's new album.

What happened to Rock music? RIP Kurt.

Are you serious?

R&b is right there with rap...same loop through the whole song, boring I think...and easy..yes I said it EASY. We have a whole generation of button pusher's that call it talent!!

I used to do a lot of rap and r&b but got tired of it...my kid makes music on fruity loops that sounds like the shit on the radio...To easy.....

PS. he can play drums, bass and guitar ..thats the only reason I let him PLAY around with fruity loops...I dont want to create a poser musician..

OUCH...DID HE REALLY SAY THAT?????

OK Bring it on

I don't hear a big hit on this record as their others had in a top 40 sense. the Mixes are great..production reminds of me Mutts Shaina twain records. Not gonna lie i was expecting more from Mutt and was a bit dissapointed when i heard this record..one thing that i want to comment pm is that the album seems to be too sterile for a rock band and fits more with a pop country record mutt would do. Drums sound like a drum machine to me (beyond the samples) the feel to, Daniel Adair is a great drummer and can play . (check out his drumming from guitarist dave martone Martone on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos) Just my two cents. But beyond that i guess This band knows who their fans are and will continue making records for them and selling millions of copies. They arent fooling anyone and they know it..and arent much of a rock band anymore.. but they are happy being a commercial pop band so more power to them ..as the Beatles say "let it be" I much rather hear a band like nickelback on the radio than a person like Lil W**** who is putting out a rock rap record that makes me want to throw up more so than anything ive heard in my life. search itunes for lil wayne prom queen and you will see what i mean.

Yep you are correct, if this album had been that great it would be burning up the charts by now, instead its like all the other music being released......music is in the dead zone, not all but mostly rock is dead.

I bought the Nickelback album today, but for the life of me, I don't see what all the hating is about.
Randy Staub's mixes sound amazing. Jealousy really runs rampart on this forum.

This is so funny..Any of you would kill to do that record, and it probably would not be as good as it is......That's radio folks...if you are one of the BUG time engineers then this is the shit you are doing..cuz that's what the world wants, so I guess it's all little guy's slamming the band then, either that or your a hypocrite!!

Just so you know chad kroeger from nickelback is the one who signed and discovered Theory of a deadman and signed them to his imprint 604 record under roadrunner records

No offence, if you think any of the stuff you mentioned is original, you must be kinda young and not heard anything from the 50's through to the 80's. Especially, Timbaland...original...? Come on...

I think Chad's voice is his own. At least he has a sound that is his, unlike all these autotuned Justin Timberlake wannabe's that fill myspace.

Sir, I am not jealous by any stretch.

when I listen, I am going for SONG first and foremost.. the fact that they have some much admired engineer recording and mixing means naught to me... because the music is agonizingly awful.

id gladly take Bon Iver's, Iron and Wine, Elliot Smith....over any of that slick, overdone robotic, pretentious shlock. dfegad sums it up.

I just looked up the word "Over Produced" in the dictionary and wikipedia and got no results.
Kinda the same feeling i get when i hear that statement too.......

Production is personal taste.

Nobody complains that Hollywood movies are "Over Produced" and no one complains when they find out that Bruce Willis or James Bond aren't really getting shot in the movies.

Yes, it is..so you have to expect that not everyone will enjoy the slick, commercial, autotuned beat detectived elevator schlock that passes as "rock" these days.

Also agree...the idea that nickelback is good is indeed a big slice of fantasy.

I agree this album is not as good, song wise, as their previous albums... Sonically, it's fantastic... Their last album , IMO, was the best I've ever heard from them... Stellar production and well written songs... How can you NOT like "Photograph"?

Also, "Hero" from the Spiderman soundtrack is one of my favorite songs of all time...

I've never been a huge fan but I can appreciate the fact that they are one of the biggest bands of the last 10 years and are definitley doing something right.

Props to them.

This hate on Nickelback thing is getting old. It's nothing but jealousy disguised as musical snobism. Anyone would trade their current situation ot be in one like that. Anyone who says no is full of crap.

I don't agree. This doesn't account for the fact that many musicians are following their hearts, taking chances and trying to make a real contribution to the musical landscape. We're not slagging Coldplay or Jeff Buckley here, rather a band that has openly stated that they are not interested in taking chances. They're interested in cashing in on a cookie cutter formula they've figured out which is everything that is wrong with music.

Thank God there are many talented musicians and bands who would NOT gladly trade positions with Nickelback!

Some people here may be jealous of Nickelback's success, but I don't ever recall hearing anyone say "God I wish I could write a song as good as a Nickelback song" or "Chad whateverhisname's vocals are so great" or "We have to come up with a band name that is as good as Nickelback's."

Someone once told me that you have to think of Nickelback as a country band that uses Mesa amps without the twang, and while I'm not crazy about most country music (I'm partial to Bluegrass instead), I've never felt such distaste for a country band that I do about Nickelback.

When Chad sings about sex, it makes me not want to have sex. When he sings about getting drunk, it makes me not want to drink. Thankfully my wife has never opened a bottle of wine wearing lingerie while listening to a Nickelback album because I'd probably have to leave her, never again being able to disassociate the band that I dislike the most on the planet from the woman I love the most. I thank the Universe daily that I've never heard a Nickelback song that encouraged me to think about something more complex than my basic bodily functions because I honestly would be worried that I would attempt an at-home lobotomy in order to erase the thought. The sum of the music, lyrics, vocals, and production actually cause some sort of discord within my soul that makes me want to nullify Nickelback. I cannot listen to them, and I can pretty much listen to anything and get some worth out of it. It's that bad.

I am not jealous of their success. I'm more inclined to live a low-key lifestyle. I don't like traveling. I don't like playing music in front of people. I don't like having sex with multitudes of women (well, anymore anyways, I wasn't always married), I'm not driven by money. I don't like writing crappy songs, playing guitar like someone who has only played guitar for 2 years, or singing with a voice that begs to be silenced by its very character and existence. In short, Nickelback can only offer me the sublime opportunity to so completely be offended by their existence and bewildered by their success and popularity.

And that's why I like them. I don't often truly hate people, bands, or music, but I get to make an exception in their case.

I don't know how 10 million listeners can be wrong, but I know they are
