In a word...No!
I saw that show, and I think I'd rather hear Michael Phelps perform.
Well at least we know know who the guitar mastermind behind the great "...Shreads" videos is

I don't think he was doing it for fun, I guess seeing this as a national TV act, Its just funny to see acts like this when there is soooo much more talent out there imo. The backup band was good. I would hate to hear the vocals without autotune on.

So to answer my question, I don't believe this is talent. Help me see how it is if you disagree.

Seriously, that was pretty damn weak. It's almost hard to believe that wasn't a joke (and the album version isn't much better, including his crap guitar playing). I mean, come on, how do people like this go 2x platinum?!

fame, a manager and a publicist is more important than talent.

Famous musicians/singers Paris Hilton, Nicole Richey, Ashley Simpson.......fame, a manager and a publicist, no talent.

JS Bach or Beethoven never used auto-tune or comp tracks, nor an eq, a compressor/limiter, a reverb or a delay an analog or digital mix system. All that was achieved in the writing and performance of the music. Obviously Bach and Beethoven were doing it wrong.

when did talent ever figure into success?
he's probably got so many people around him blowing smoke up his ass he doesn't even have a clue how talentless he really is. Sad reality for most in the business, self development often stops at the first big paycheck.

yeah

I see this, no talent gets a promotion, more so in the rap genre then any other imo, not saying there isn't talent out there in that genre, cause there most definetally is, just as a professional, it really is amazing to see this sort of thing for one, sell tremendously, and then to see it take up time in national TV spotlight. I know of, and don't know of, many many talented people who do not get the chance, and its just unfortunate and frustrating to see stuff like this have a HUGE vehicle for promotion and success, when honestly, I do not believe it deserves it.

Makes me wonder what is the future for music, and or what talent and music is promoted and showcased in the coming days, and why more talented people do not see even a glimpse of success as this (one aspect of success I guess) Not that this discussion is anything new, I know very well some of the aspects of this industry, its just moments like this are a sad reminder I guess.

Was any of that actually preformed live?..... Seems to me it was all pre-recorded including the back-up band.... Although you would assume that if it was pre-recorded the guitar solo wouldn't have sucked so hard, even know it still didn't even look like he was playing that guitar solo either.

Either way my opinion is the same as it was on the previous "Auto-Tune Disaster Thread" that was kicking around yesterday...

I understand that he is going for an effect with the auto-tune, and that effect is done very very poorly. What I don't understand is if you are going to use a massive amounts of auto-tune to make the voice sound like its doing fills and scales like a bass guitar, then why isn't it at-least in tune?

Half the vocals are off key, and they make absolutely no musical sense aside from the delivery of the rhythm.

I just find that super weird coming from a type of music that is based on very straight forward / simple / "traditional" / basic music.

You got the same 4 chords, playing the same 4 chord riff, with the same drum beat at a mid range tempo, over and over and over again and now to top it all off the vocals aren't even in key half the time. And to top that off they put a super weak guitar solo at the end, and no one really seems to know if it was serious or not.

So what's even left? The beat? The arraignment of the chords? and they are surly nothing we haven't heard before....

This song isn't a good rap / soul song or a good anything song..... It is a super weak idea....... What a pile of crap.

Rap has gone down the drain for the time being. Lil Wayne is one of the more interesting artists right now. It's obvious he can't play the guitar, but his albums are fairly entertaining for a night out. Much better than the other crap that's out there now.

I wish I remember who it was that once said to me "Lil Wayne is a great guitarist! He's like a virtuoso! That's him playing the solos in his songs."
Right. Didn't believe it then based on Lil' Wayne's persona (compared to someone like the guy from the Fugis). I may have been wrong on that, but I wasn't wrong about him not actually being talented at guitar.

Virtuoso. HA!

the overstatement of the year perhaps. Its been my experience, that the dudes I have known, worked with, if anyone shows the slightest bit of ability to play an instrument, they are highly esteemed, not good, but can wank a few sloppy notes on the guitar, and suddenly they are amazing guitar players. I honestly want to not critisize this genre, but I think as far as musically, it has to be one of the less demanding, less talent necessary. I truly hope that more talent arises up.

I think it was Jay-Z, or whowever came out of retirement, because he said that the rap world has gone down hill and needs to get serious. I thought, oh, now thats cool. But then I heard one of his new songs, rapping about booty's or something. Common, there has got to be more.

I think the last time I seriously liked Rap was back when I listened to the likes of Eric B and Rakim. Perhaps I am just getting old??

Of course I can read, I get it. Maybe I'm just reading into it, but the comment seemed to fall in line with people who say things like, "white girls who like black guys are trying to make their daddy's mad."

+1..I loved some eric B and rakim...You would just think that 20 years later there would be more talent involved..they are still sampling old records and sh&t...no one ever had to learn basic chord structure.

They need to stick to drawing lines through Fruity Loops and leave the real instruments alone!!!!

You guys are just hating. Have you even listened to a Lil' Waye album? Do you even like rap? Compared to his contemporaries, Lil' Wayne clowns. I still think he is overrated, but it's all relative. His lyrical content is fairly solid. If you want to clown on someone why not choose 50 or Jeezy? Now there is a waste of audio. 50 had his moment but it's over as far as I'm concerned. Wayne could run circles around 50's lyrics. Don't even get me started on T-Pain.

Wayne's guitar playing is just a gimmick. You can tell just by the way he holds the guitar he doesn't play. He probably likes the guitar, but if he wants to be taken seriously as a guitar player he needs to practice more.

At least he's not selling hate (as much) like the rest of today's commercial rappers.

85% of the music I have made and recorded was rap...rappers came to me because I made their music (beats) with 90% live instruments, so they had something original. I have watched them draw lines through Fruity Loops and ask me to take out the bad note's..If they could even here the bad notes...I have 20+ years of makeing hip hop music for artists..and I can tell you...This week ass sampled music sucks...There..
PS. Im not trying to hate on any one artist!!!!

Sorry man..I did not tell the story.

My oldest friend is still trying to be a rapper and making bunk beats in Fruty Loops..His girlfriend and their friends just egg him on..but I dont have the heart to tell him either!! I just take the crap he brings over and try to make it better.
He has wasted his whole life on this..no job, no home, but hey..he's a Gangsta that raps!! You know what Im saying?

Just hating? don't think its that man. Why is pointing out a horrible performance hating? To me it then means that any good takes or recordings from him mean they have to be super doctored up, and I ascribe very little talent for the fame and success that he has seemed to get. At this level, I expect much much more.

I honestly don't know much about him, just when seeing something like this on a national TV show, It just pains me a little, not because I want to be a super star and think I have more talent, I know way too many poeple with more talent that haven't had the opportunity, and when junk like this prevails, its just an unfortunate moment I guess.

I would really like to see some impressive talent come out in this genre, just havn't been inspired by anything I hear. I would like to though, and thats honest.
