Thumbs down The Day That Never (should have) Come?

Ok, so I was going to post this to the NEW METALLICA SONG thread but it doesn't seem to exist anymore - it shows up in the search but all attempts to get to it come up short - so I thought I'd start a new "moan"

I should say, in all fairness, that (a) I like metallica and NOT just the early stuff... all the way up to load/re-load (which should have been one album and even then they should have spent a little more time on it and (b) I worked with them on an album and they are great, talented guys who were cool and hooked me up with backstage passes for me and my friends. (c) my first REAL rock concert was the Injustice tour at Worcester Centrum... last row, upper deck IT RAWKED!

Having said that - I was listening to the radio version of TDTNC and thinking that although it didn't sound great it was WAY better than the awful streaming, Itunes version (still hoping for a remix/remaster before release)... then, I had this horrible, horrible thought... THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN FOR GUITAR HERO!

Think about the last few minutes of the song... one guitar plays a fairly simple, repetitive line, then the other one does back and forth... with only an occasional fast riff to end the passages (or to signal player 2 to get ready?) I kept thinking - wow, their fingering is really simplistic (having watched Kirk from about 4 feet away during our sessions and being blown away!) maybe this is why?

I hope i'm wrong but i can't shake the feeling I'm not - I've run it by a few guitar player/metallica fans and they all seem to think I've stumbled upon something sinister.

to "gimme fuel" to my fire - their website states that the tracks will be available for download for GUITAR HERO september 12th... Metallica.com

Bands with money and nothing new to say (love is a four letter word?, my lifestyle determines my death style? c'mon) should just tour... trust me, we'll still go, we'll still buy "merch" it'll be ok (Psycho Circus anyone?)

Eckk...you've stumbled upon something haunting :S

I'd rather not think about this anymore and pretend its the late 80s and put Kill em all on.

They need guitar hero: Slayer Edition.

I honestly don't even like these games. It oversimplifies a wonderful art and just contributes to that whole instant gratification society that we've turned into.

Becoming a good guitar player takes years of dedication, practice, patience, skill and talent. Being a good guitar hero player takes about 14 minutes, a 6 pack of mountain dew and your mother's basement. There's only 5 buttons...

At least Dance Dance revolution has some serious physicality to it.

And I understand the argument of, "It opens these kids up to the guitar and they'll take it up later." They won't. They will get frustrated with it because it's really hard compared to Guitar hero, I mean, you have to actually fret it PROPERLY? And then they quit leaving that Squier in their closet to collect dust.
