The nightmare of finding space in Chicago.

I recently sold off my studio and left the great space I had but found I could no longer afford. I am now looking to find another spot to do something much smaller. Just for my own music with a much more scaled down affordable rig. The problem is either finding an apartment in the city with really cool neighbors or sharing a rehearsal space with a bunch of guys you don't know and work around their schedule. I'd kill a drifter for a cheap office space to write in after hours. Just give me a concrete box and I can make it work.

Life is hard.

Have you tried sub-letting a room out of an existing studio?

Also look into commercial/ office space with high ceilings.....build a room inside the room for your studio.

LOL

I don't know how long I have been saying that but it's less abrasive than "I'd eat 10 newborns for..." I guess I grew up around a lot of guys with a warped sense of humor. Sorry if I hit a little too close to home. Good luck on finding a dry cardboard box this winter.

I found a space that isn't too bad. It's a little hot right now but it should be fine this fall.

OK there is a big-ass warehouse right on the corner of Cicero & Augusta Blvd.

It's on the east side of that intersection. OK?

Now, although it's on the east side of that intersection, it is RIGHT NEXT to that gas station that's on the NE corner of Cicero & Augusta.

Now, the warehouse is the studio that is right next to the gas station. Ask for Marty at the big gate. He runs a rehearsal studio as well as a photo studio.

Tell him I'm sorry for leaving my studio a mess when I moved out.

PS: The instructions are a bit redundant as you can see, but I want to make sure you are following me down to a science. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up but I had actually looked into that place a while ago. It's just so far west from my apt. that I might as well be in the suburbs. And Augusta can be a nightmare to get down as well. It's a two lane road with 6 lanes worth of traffic sometimes. I found a place a stones throw from Albinis studio on the north side. Thanks for trying though.
