| strange craigslist post. Why does this bother me... American Idol /Nashville Star? - Training - Vocals & Performance Coach 30 year Professional Performer/Music Producer will COACH you in to PRO PERFORMER "shape". Develop your skills to NATIONALLY COMPETITIVE LEVELS in Voice, Guitar, Keys, Songwriting, Choreography and STAGE PERFORMANCE. Group coaching available. So I emailed the guy about rates, hours, when and where and how much for him to come to my studio because I have a vocal booth, desk, 5 guitars, amps..and a particularly difficult tack loaded in nuendo 4, or would pay cash at his place... But he wont respond not even a "no thanks" Is this kind of guy fishing for beginners? This is his www site. Mystic River Im running into more and more of these kinds of instructors, one even suggested I learn guitar tabs. and another one said I should buy guitar world magazine. ![]()

| Lives for gear | It's just part of that instant gratification nonsense that has become music. "Oh I competed for 3 weeks and have a record contract!" How about you go play the holes with me for a few years and actually get good? That's what pisses me off. When they stick those Idols next to REAL stars, the comparison is so stark. There's a lot of half-ass players who teach in this town too. This guy's schtick is that he's training you FOR something so he can charge better rates. If he was just a mediocre voice coach, he wouldn't make any money. It's probably clear that you're past the level that he's comfortable teaching. Not responding though is probably not the most professional. I say go sign him up for a bunch of spam. |

| Precious, VERY precious. I know these people are out there, but for some reason our paths never cross....maybe I need to get out more? Mmmm, no.

| Lives for gear | As American Idol, America's Got Talent, Nashville Star, The Gong Show etc grow in popularity, these semi-scammers will show up more and more often. The one that pisses me off, the guy who sells real book CDs (bunch of PDF versions of jazz fakebooks) when the real book was really created with the purest of intent (before Hal Leonard took it over) I got the CD at college for free from a friend, I then made copies for a bunch of my friends. These are non-licenced, non-owned. The only problem is the songwriter doesn't get credit or royalty (but they weren't getting any before because the real book was illegally distributed) but I'm more than happy to pay them now that I'm recording their tunes. I'm not advocating intellectual property theft, but to attempt to PROFIT off of it is just beyond my realm of comprehension. |
