Typical dell owners :( So full of violence and hate. Sure it was cheap, but you have to deal with dell. lol.

At least you didn't want yours, instead of having it for 3 weeks and it breaking down, then having a technician in-house 4-5 days trying to get a cheap computer to work again. And then there was the old job that decided to try and upgrade expendable dells. They are dumpster fodder.

There is inexpensive, and then there is cheap.

At work I have about 200 dell dual xeon workstations and 150 dell dual xeon rack servers. All working 24/7 they have been fantastic - hardly any failures at all in the last year (maybe 2 graphics cards and 1 or two hard drives).

better than most of the other kit I have here.

Here's a really funny article about Dell:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/north/north159.html

My favorite part is the link to a utility that works in Win 95, 98 and ME. With it, you can change the color of the Blue Screen of Death to green, purple or black.

My last PC was a Dell. I kept it around after switching to Macs so I could run (then) Sonic Foundry applications. When it finally died, I took it into the alley and beat it to pieces with a tire iron. It crashed constantly, pretty much right out of the box, several times a day. Dell's support was basically nonexistent. F U Michael Dell.

I've had three Dells. The Inspiron laptop had issues about 1 month before the warranty was going to die. They sent out the tech. Twice in one week. The second time he came, he told me that he couldn't figure out why it randomly re-booted. So he replaced every part except the TFT monitor. That was four years ago and it still works great.

All in all I can't complain too much about any of my Dell purchases, but my favorite PC in the house is my wife's new MACbook. That will be my next one!

PCUSA.com has built two computers for me over the past 6 years and both have been stellar.

The Compaq and Gateway computers I used to have sucked ass (of course, this was in the 90s). I did buy a Dell laptop about 4 years ago, and had to have it repaired (under warranty). It's been just ok since then... no big crashes or anything.

Forget the big players. Build it custom yourself, or have a company like PCUSA build it.

I have a new Inspiron 1720 here with two harddisks and it is an amazing experience. The second harddrive does 52mb/s write. It will be amazing to record/mix with.

I've had a Dell computer for the past 5-6 years that has worked fairy well. The only time it's ever crashed is when I filled up the hard drive until there was only about 100MB left and then ran iTunes.

Running multiple memory-hungry programs at once slows it down, but it's not like I haven't had that problem on a Mac or a PC running Linux or any other PC (HP, Compaq, Acer, Toshiba, etc.)

I've had more trouble with Macs then I ever have with PC's.

As I understand it, the majors, including Dell and Apple are all made by one of a few manufacturers. Quanta is a big one:

Quanta Computers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've owned two powerbooks and both of them had bad RAM installed. I do have a Macbook Pro that rocks in every way, though. I've had plenty of crappy PCs, as well as some good ones, too.

I just felt the need to respond to an obvious troll from a previous poster. My mistake. Saying that PC users don't have REAL computer knowledge is just silly, and maybe I shouldn't have dignified it with a response. My bad.

I have a lovely Inspiron laptop.

Second motherboard fried, recently.

It makes a dandy paperweight.

Though I have never bought a Dell, I do have friends and family members with them. The problems those Dells have is that there is a huge amount of crap software already installed on them. Letting these programs run in the background can really tax your system up. So I ended up uninstalling all the third party software on them as soon as they bought them. Out of all those people only one of them actually had hardware failure.
The problem isn't pcs in general, its the spam ware cookies when the owner starts to go on sites offering, "free" things, or porn. Those bog up the computer and then they end up complaing that their computers are slow.
Thats where Mac excells. You don't have to worry about having to fight adware if your computer is online.

I've had my dell for 5 years and i've never had a problem. I'd say I've only turned it off maybe 10 times since i've owned it ( al gore! don't flame me, i use the expensive light bulbs!). Of course I use my mac for recording...

3 Dells and 2 Macs in the house.

Of those....more headaches with the G5, and Dual 1.25 G4 than all three Dells combined.

Guess I'm lucky?

Dells are weak, you can get better performance by having a local system builder put something together, and you don't have to deal with propietary this, and propietary that. It's hard to even get an answer from them about what components are used.

From previously working in tech support for a company that makes DAW products, I can honestly say that Dell's made my life more hell than just about anything. And if the guy had Sonar too, well then ****...

Sorry sonarheads, I know you love your app, xray is pretty cool and all that, but really...
