Man goes into a store to buy a cable..

All,

Just a little infuriating experience to share:

I walked up to ProAudio solutions, a gear dealer in Nashville, to get a digital snake that I saw on their website. I don't go there often because the vibe is very strange... very elitist (even though it's just a gear shop like everywhere else).

ANyway, the door now has a sign on it that says "by appt only" ... ok.. maybe they wouldn't have to be by appt only if they were in a better part of town because they wouldn't have to keep the door locked at all times, but I digress.

I have casually known the owner of this store for 7 years (being on old PARIS user). I call them on my cell and let them know that I am standing outside... they let me in and I start looking for the cable. The owner is in the room and asks me what Im looking for... I tell him I just got a KSP8 and I need the digital cable to connect it to my HD rig. He says:

"We sell the KSP8"

hmm.. ok... i try again

me: I just need the cable... i already bought the KSP8
him: SIGH... Im so SICK of everyone doing that... they go buy the high dollar piece and then come in here to get a cable.

OK..

WHOA buddy...

Its not like I pumped you for info, got your best price and then went somewhere else and bought the KSP8... I was trying to give you business. my bad!

I tell him I bought it used and he then proceeds to tell me that he's not interested in selling me the cable... I had to ASK him to sell me the cable...

Well, it turns out that the one on the website is out of stock and he only has a 140 dollar Zoalla cable in stock... that's list price.. he says he'll sell it to me for that.. ok... first of all, they made the cable... and cable is hella markup anyway...at this point im like

no thanks... so I leave

now, fair enough if he wants to sell it at list... its his store... but I dont have to shop there... and he wont be getting any more of my business... Ill go to guitar center first and be called Bro all day long before I deal with the crap again.

fyi... ymmv... wtfever... peace

Ha! That's great....

I've been hearing a lot of people unhappy with their service lately, but the one time i dealt with them they were great. I bought a countryman on one day, ended up breaking it the next (i know, i thought it was impossible too...) and they replaced it that day, no questions asked. given, the countryman should not have randomly stopped working, i was still extremely happy with the way i was treated.

If this was a Seinfeld episode, it would be called "The Cable Nazi."

They are weird. It is a weird place. By appointment only, hm. I don't think that has as much to do with the area, as it does their unwillingness to actually deal with people. They should have decided long ago if they are walk-in or web order. Being both apparently didn't work for them.

Also see here and here.

You've known the owner for seven years? Why don't you ask him WTF?

If the whole thing was a front for a vast cocaine operation, and had nothing to do with pro audio, that would explain all of this.

I said "IF"....

I went round and tapped his bell with a mallet.

He'll limp for a while.
