How do I ignore people?

Hi
Is there an ignore function on Gearslutz?
Its seems there are certain people on here who never add anything valid to a discussion and just take jibes at other people. It winds me up that people can't just be civil to each other and have to be condescending and patronizing. Not to mention the fact that we have to wade through hoards of shit to get to the genuinely insightful and helpful info that is here on the forum.
I'm not going to mention names but I'm sure you've all noticed these people.
Sorry if this has all been said before but its bloody irritating.

Cheers

* go to "view public profile" (click on profile name)
* click "user lists"
* select "add to ignore list"

The ignore function has kept me on GS. I'd have been gone long ago without it. I won't say who's on it, but there are about 6 people who ruin any sense of exchange or conversation -- their opinions are so important and their sense of fair play is out the window. No talking to them if you have a contrary point of view. They won't listen and have a quick reaction to name calling.

They're gone from my view. Makes life here much simpler. All I see is "XXXX" is on your ignore list. Ah! Heaven.

LOL! No. But good if you can see something similarities there!

No, you're not even close to being on my ignore list. And thank you.

But what if... what if "whiskey" was on your ignore list... would it still make you drunk?

...I've just added the first person to my ignore list! Didn't really want to use this function, but when someone keeps replying with insulting and personal attacks for no particular reason...well, I'm not really big enough to ignore it without help!

Thank god for technology....

Once someone makes my ignore list it's irrevocable. I'm never removing them. It took a lot for them to get there and I had very good reason. People CAN change but I already gave them the benefit of much doubt before they ended up ignored. Life's too short for assholes. There are way too many good people to spend my time with. If they've shown there colors a few times they're bound to show them again.

very good tip. Unfortunatley I find myself getting wound up by a couple of people. So i will add them to mine. The mind should be focussed on the job or trying to help. Insults are just crazy.

I have developed the Vulcan mind-control technique of SKIPPING OVER THE PERSON'S POST AND NOT READING IT and moving on. I mean, seriously, everybody is so sensitive...!

Why, did someone say something?!

lol just kidding...if you really care, a quick browse through my recent posts would tell you.

I really wanted to avoid doing that - I like knowing what people are saying, even if it's offensive - and the most offensive and ignorant (funny how that goes together) are usually quite amusing anyway (step forward dylansmale) so that doesn't matter.

But when someone attacks you for no particular reason other than you replied to their post...they're not worth the electrons, frankly!

Nah...just having fun. I've got one on mine; this particular...um, entity is evidently here for the sole purpose of digging at people, and rarely makes a point worth pondering. When ignored, it's easier to concentrate on the actual discussion. And when people quote him/her in their posts, I'm reminded of why he/she is the only one on my list.

P.S. - It's not Snerdly; he's far too wacked to ignore

The ignore function should really have an option "and everybody who looks like you."

I've got an EVEN MORE existentially hopeful thought!

If I put "hurtfullness" on my ignore list... no one will ever make me feel sad.

The only problem with the ignore list is someone will end up quoting them and you will end up seeing it anyways. It still helps though.

ok thank goodness i found this thread. i'm gonna use it now.

i used to think, 'no i shouldn't ignore because i want the full scope of all discussion',
but some people on here are just totally ridiculous.

they dominate the topic and make us think like them, and then they defend themselves saying it's just opinion when criticized.

anyway, i'm gonna use this ignore function because when these annoying posters start to invade OTHER threads with the same trolling crap from previous discussions, that's just uncalled for, and i think, takes away from the quality of this place.
