Getting this off my chest.. Maybe a good thing..

So, just some bkgrnd..
Lost my Father to cancer 7 years ago..
Almost lost my Mom to cancer last year, but she pulled thru..

Anyway.. I work during the day in Computers as well as Audio engineer/produce to pay for my Audio equipment ...

So I work Downtown and my window behind me looks out onto the street.
I got up for a cup of coffee and on my way back, I noticed a women parked crooked on the side of the street, kinda blocking one lane.

Her head was leaning back against the head rest of her seat and she looked like she wasnt breathing or taking short breaths..

I honeslty thought she was having a heart attack. So I leave my office and go out to her car. She was beside herself in grief. The woman couldnt catch her breath and was obviously in shock. Someone close to her had called and told her that her husband passed away. He had cancer and was home with a hospice person.
He was alert when she left ..

What was worse was that she was traveling from talking to a priest about coming over to her house to give him his last rights soon. She never got a chance to say goodbye to him..

7 years after seeing a loved one pass brought me right back in the blink of an eye.. I could have changed places with her.. It felt that real all over again.

The look in her eyes said it all.. The only thing I could do was comfort this poor woman.

Time to go drinking..

Truer words have not been spoken.
At the least some "good" came out of your grief, you were there to help guide her through hers. The human experience should not be a lonely one, we're social animals for a reason.
Good on you for rushing out to help a fellow animal.

Truly amazing post, Sir. It brought it all back to me. I lost them both to cancer.
My respect to you for stopping and comforting someone in distress. To often, individuals look the other way.
Best.

Lost my mom to cancer 14 years ago this month. I was there when she went. She was in so much pain at that point that it was a big relief to see her go. Sad thing, that cancer.

Thanks for sharing.

I'd just need to replace the date with "16 years ago in July", but otherwise, same here exactly. Being there helps you come to terms with it...

Cancer is such a horrible thing. I lost my wife to it 8 years ago. She was only 30. Losing someone you love is by far the worst pain I've ever felt.

I'm so sorry to hear that. How horrible, terrible. Drinking is not the best thing you could be doing now. I'm sorry to say, it's among the worst.

Hang in there.

first, i admire you for getting out of your office and going to the lady's aid in the first place.

second, given your own family experience, you were definitely the right person to be there for her at that moment.

third, even if you're not particularly religious (i'm not) or superstitious or "spiritual" or whatever, it's worth replaying the events of your post in slow motion and thinking about them, because the whole coincidence of it is almost too much, and definitely remarkable.

you did well. i think your dad would be very proud of you.

same for my mother in law, just this past december. was very hard on my wife, but after such an extended period of excruciating pain it was comforting that her mum was finally relieved of the burden.
