I previewed the tracks this morning. Sounds cool and interesting as usual. I was enamored with the youtube videos from ninofficial about some cool music technology.

they also personally uploaded it to a certain bit torrent tracker..
trent reznor also gave an interesting interview about how the former oink torrent site was a great resource and he was sad to see it go

I had problems D/Ling to. I got a download exceeded limit message, so I sent a message to their support. Haven't heard back from them yet, I imagine they are busy.

... which I downloaded earlier.

I have to say ... it is mostly rubbish.
Well not so much rubbish as a bunch of 1/2 finished ideas and not really a cohesive album or project.

It sounds like they took all the songs in their 'in progress' work folder (like we all have) and just mixed them 'as is'.
Then released it.

There isn't, on a first listen, much progression with the pieces, nor a developed thematic thread between each piece.

I haven't been much of a fan of TR since the Fragile, to be honest.
Trent seems to be treading a well worn path- his 'i'm so tortured' schtick doesn't ring true.
Y34RZ3r0r3mix3d was excellent but that was more about the remixers than the source material.

Ghosts comes off as a bit pretentious-.
An experimental album that doesn't really experiment- it has none of the pure creatively of, for instance, Autechre, Robert Fripp, Henry Kaiser, Derek Bailey, John Zorn or any other recording unit working with similar goals.

Thumbs down for me.

Octatonic I know what you mean, but it's really a matter of perception NIN's albums all the time.

I always had trouble accepting Trent's new albums in a way that I really like it at first listening.

NIN has never been like that. It's always Trent's experimental creativity with the signature which somehow brings something new.

I managed to download Ghost CD I as well and I must say it's gonna be a steep curve of accepting this new album.

It also happened to me that last two albums of NIN I didn't like at first and after a year period I realized it was again his mastery of music creation..

...never had that problem with previous ones tho..

I like Pretty Hate Machine
I really like Broken
I love The Downward Spiral
I LOVE The Fragile (Left and Right equally)
I love Still
I like With Teeth
I love Year Zero
I like YZRemixed

So far, I have enjoyed to a certain degree, everything he has put out and so I am confident that I will like this creation as well.. Given that it was just a 10 week deal, and 36 tracks, I mean, that's a pretty quick pace.

Im really really digging this album. Its more atmosphere than music really. Im just enjoying having it on in the background. I like the remix idea also, it gives alot of space to really remix these tracks. At $5 for the whole album download can you really complain? Great idea, great album.
