I can see this being the most back-and-forth insulting thread in Gearslutz history.

I can see this thread filling up with the usual ad hominem, snotty bullshit and falling off of page one like every other thread, here, in about four days.

F*uck this shit.

I got things to do and arguing a position with a troll is like beating a mongoloid for shitting his pants.

He doesn't know any better, he doesn't learn anything and the noise is awful.

I think you're right Joel. I'm going to delete my posts so everyone here can bash away. Sorry to have tried to point out reality.

My appologies everyone.

I'll bite. A couple of months ago I went in to try some stingray 5's out. There were 3 or 4 on the wall but all had insanely unplayable action (ex. 1" at the twelfth fret or so low open notes made no sound--they just hit the frets). I told the sales guy and he put them behind the counter and walked away.

I understand not being able to setup every instrument but everything should be playable....and IMO anything over $1k should be well set up....or at least you would sell more of them if they were.

On another note, when this first happened I whined a bit in another forum and a guitar center employee chimed in that "if I was serious about buying I would have called ahead and asked them to set them up." I told him I didn't call car dealerships and ask them to inflate tires either.

Okay, let's argue over semantics. The reality is that MSRP means nothing anymore. An SM57 lists at $158.99. Have you ever paid more than $99 for a 57? No, $99 is the price, no more, no less. This is so commonplace that magazines even give the MSRP and the street price. And it's the same everywhere you go. Perhaps your lack of understanding regarding these concepts is the reason your ownership of 3 different guitar stores exists only in the past tense.

No but it's been that price for over 30 years. Get a grip. I'm being called a troll and told I don't know what words mean. I guess I'm done. Hopefully when my account gets deleted all of my trolling posts will get removed. And anytime you want to meet face to face and teach me what retail is I'm just down in Murfreesboro.

Gee, that's mature. Let's act like a couple of NASCAR fans and get into fisticuffs over which Dale Earnhardt was the better driver.

I asked you to teach me the meaning of word. How in the hell did you get fisticuffs out of that? Oh, you just make word mean what you want them to. I forgot.

Since you are all knowing, how do I contact someone to get my account deleted?

Don't be coy, you knew what you were saying. If I ask someone to step outside does that mean I want to show them my new car?

Is this the definition of passive aggression or what? "Someone tell me how to find someone who can make me stop coming here for this abuse"

Oh yeah, and your breath smells like stinky nacho farts.

Shees, what a temper.

That's probably why you're not married?

Get it now?

How old are you people?

Because if you're older than me (26), you're all a bunch of idiots.

wow, guys. classy thread.

To the original poster: I don't think you will find any help here that you, personally, can realistically implement at your store. Maybe a few small things, like setting up the instruments... but as a few have mentioned, most of the problems with Guitar Center stem from much deeper places then how one man manages his store.

If your company, however, is really interested in being a great retail experience, I suggest you ask Apple.

although they probably won't tell you anything. Hahaha.

Wow. That's a new one.

I had no idea the age for idiocy was cut off at 25.

You get porky with me, I call you on it.

Sorry to offend, but I'm a dirty sonofabitch if I'm changing my tune for every posturing wanker with an insult in exchange for light humour.

That wasn't directed at you.

The pisstake was noted.

It was a tad shopworn, but noted.

To get back on topic, the best thing GC could do would be to instruct their salesmen to treat every potential customer with respect, and not to act as though they know more than everyone who walks in the door. If that were true they'd be using the gear instead of selling it.

And yes, sometimes a customer comes in badly informed and could use some help. If a 17 year old kid comes in and wants to buy a pair of M-Audio bx5a's, he might benefit from a helping hand. If I come in and want to buy a Massive Passive, just sell it to me. Under retail please.

My MOST recent experience:

This is a gorgeous store. They obviously sunk a ton of money into this place.
I had to fend off 20 plus employees.... new store more help than customers.

I saw a new Euphonix System 5 MC that was supposed to be running the new Apple Logic platform..... It was crashed and nobody knew how to reboot!
Nice.... I thought well maybe..... but I was wrong. Sales folks were not trained.

Hmm...
I'm less concerned with my authorization to conduct this survey than I am with making sure I do what I can to make GC a better place for you guys. I'm aware of our general reputation, and input like yours here (regarding the new store, which is absolutely beautiful) will help narrow that down to specific things that can be done. I appreciate you speaking up.
