Awesome.

I bet that was written on a P64 MKVI with a Q Fold Hyper string setting component wired bipolar onto a modded RT-64 PRO.

Long time I've seen those around.

Definitely a keeper.

Is it bad that the first thing I thought was "your" should be "you're" in the title? I'm not sure if good grammar makes you a good engineer or not. Beyond that, I'm confused.

Alot of so called Engineers can't mix! They can record the tracks better than most, but can't mix, they gotta get someone in to mix!

For those of you who missed it the original post has been edited. It was however a very thoughtful and inspiring post although I suspect it was alcohol induced.

More please

Well, apparently, some engineer in California sad that if you can't hear the artefacts that Firewire adds to audio, you shouldn't be an engineer.

I remember reading that somewhere. It was an AES report about Firewire anf it's effect on music quality.

You're not a good engineer unless...

1. You clean the chunks off the pop filter at the beginning of each day with Lysol

2. You check the headphones and make sure something is coming out of them before you say "yeah I'm ready"

3. You mute the mic and wait patiently when a rapper answers his phone in the middle of a take

4. You can keep your cool while a coked out, no-talent wannabe keeps poking you and screaming at you about how he NEEDS something to be different right now, "anything"

5. You know right where to whack the SSL so it will stop making nasty gurgling and crunching noises through the NS-10's while you are blasting the mains at 110 dB

6. You know when to get out of the way when everyone is dancing and getting crazy in the control room and swinging their drinks around near the console because if someone trips over you, it's your fault

7. You keep an eye on the feet of the (studio owner, label president, drummer, drummer's girlfriend) person who is sitting on the producer's desk right above the GML so their feet don't kick a knob up to +15 @1k... (usually happens right after or during rule #5)

8. You make damn sure the MPC is plugged in and duct taped securely with a good power cord into a solid power strip BEFORE the artist loads up a bunch of sounds, cuts up a bunch of samples and writes what clearly is a hit song, and then rule #6 begins and someone "just barely" bumps the power cord before anyone thinks of saving anything...

9. You're comfortable telling someone who weighs 3 times as much as you and has 3 times as many guns on them as you do "no, I can't give you a CD, it could cost me my job, man"

10. You know when you're "done"

You would have had to have read the orignal 1st post before it was edited by the thread starter.

The gist of the original post was "you guys think you're so cool just because you know all these abbreviations for different audio processes, and the names of all the commonly used gear that's important to the operation of any commercial facility. I don't know this stuff, but I think I'm great, so I'm taking my ball and going home! Waaaaahhh!"

So no, you didn't miss much.
