Nickelback - Rockstar

So, the "the drugs come cheap" and not for free? I'm irritated and not sure about my future career anymore.

I should ruddy well hope so.

The second, at least, were/are artists with political overtones. The whole CONCEPT of nickelpipe is ONLY about money. About as relevent as Natasha Bedingfield and sells to a similar housewife/husband MOR blandupines.... They make Bon Jovi look leftfield FFS.

Nickelback is the most infuriating band of all time. Why people like them, I'll never know.

This is just a wild guess, but maybe it's because they write really catchy songs that appeal to a lot of people. I wonder how many of you Nickelback haters can actually write a song much less write one that sells by the truckload.

Or because they were backed by tons of promotional $. Being able to write songs has nothing to do with not liking a band either.

"Really catchy songs" ...that's up for debate.

nickleback is more important than Mahler or Coltrane by your philosphy. one shouldn't equate financial success with artistic success. that being said, i know some people who have worked with those guys and swear that they are really into what they do and are passionate about their writing like anyone else.

i still don't like what they do though!

they weren't originally...did tons and tons of clubs for years...wrote a great pop song...had a hit...been milking it for everything it's worth since....that is rock n' roll people. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I don't have any of their CDs....but a lot of people do.

Sorry bro' . The Lord Bunny has you nailed. Music for most of us is about art, the likes of QOTSA and even good old Nirvana many moons ago didnt sacrifice decent music for cash even though they made loads! Intention is everything. All that poodle permed maniac has is , well, a poodle perm.

As for truck loads? Well not me - but done enough to buy ma lil old house ...

I don't have to be a cook to know that my toast is burnt.

Catchy doesn't equate to good.

I'm not hating on them- I am not a fan of the music, but I am impressed by their consistency and general competence. I am not so fond of the music, because it is always very obvious where the song is going to go. If a song is going to be that obvious, there should be an appealing groove, yet there is usually a lumbering cadence that is a turn off.

Nickelback will never amount to shit artistically in the end. They are homogeonized rock at its least experimental. They are a testament to why kurt cobain killed himself. They are everything about rock music that made you look out the window instead of listen. They are more hazardous to the music industry than illegal downloading. They are the musical equivalent of "playing it safe." They are the band voted to most likely to have been created from a focus group.

That band and that song in particular are chunks of moldy cheese in the dairy isle. Its seriously a bunch of nerds trying to convince you how tough/cool they are.

I hate Nickelback, I hate Pearl Jam, I hate Creed, I hate Robert Zimmerman.

I feel better now.

blah

I have to admit I have NickelCrack on my iPod. Not that I dig their music but I like to stare at my stereo like a confused dog ascertain why they sell so many albums. Maybe is because chix dig it? Its easy to remember? Its easy to equate to your life or your wanna be life? They have a Daytime Soap kinda feel to me, maybe thats why chix are into it. One girl told me that the way Chad Croeger holds his guitar was hot.

I didn't know that you spoke for "Most Of Us". Maybe I shouldn't have intruded on this Nickelback bashing parade. Nirvana? C'mon give me a break. Is that the best you got? That's art?? Look what Da Vinci did. Now that's art!!!

My wife thinks that Guiness is a shitty beer and can't understand why I drink it. I think Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde isn't a beer at all and can't understand why she drinks it. My brother thinks Pabst Blue Ribbon tastes great. One of my good friends thinks all beer tastes like horse piss and can't understand why anyone would drink beer at all.

Arguing whether one band is good or bad or whether one band is better than another is about the same as the beer argument. It's all a monumental waste of time because it is all 100% completely subjective and what is good to someone is shit to someone else.

C'mon guys, we're wasting valuable electrons with this one - the Internet has a shortage of them, we need to conserve.

Now this has got to be the winner for the dumbest ****ing post I've ever read on gearslutz. Is this what this forum has turned into. A bunch of ****ing know-it-all morons who are tired of talking about gear or recording techniques. Is business slow for you guys or something?? Maybe the experimental artsy fartsy music isn't paying off.

My vote for post of the day. Thanks. I needed this. I'm done with this thread. Hope no one took offense to any of my posts. It was fun while it lasted. I'm going to go listen to some Nickelback now and then chase it down with some White Lion or something.

I think I remember hearing that when they were trying to decide on a name they asked some of their peers to give them some ideas. One of their peers was trying to think of a simple, catchy name that would be a metaphor for 5 pounds of shit and came up with Nickelback.
