Seriously, I see a red door and it sounds like a dentist's office.

It seems everything is compressed and minimized. Especially indie rock. It's like French food, you get two notes and that's the song.

Don't get me wrong, rock's always been about two notes, but the notes are more like dings of an elevator doorbell. And the mentality must be in the tap water because it's bland, boring, and everywhere.

Now, I heard The Killers new album and was impressed. There was a lot of life pumping through those speakers. But as for indie radio, man, I think Kenny G was on to something cuz everything indie is like rock on luudes.

Okay, rant fully rendered.

103.1 Indie Los Angeles

My radio/cassette player only gets 5 channels it can pick-up at a time.

I'd try to surf around, but my truck's radio is just too prehistoric.

I've listened to it for a couple years now, and everything I hear on it sounds so thin and lifeless. There's once and a while a song comes on that sounds full and rich. But...I'm sorry, I just can't grasp it as a whole.

Like which part? Which line? It all just kind of blahs together as this thin lifeless ever-present thing happening for it.

Honestly, the only two band I can possibly recognize as indie with a pulse that I've heard are Modest Mouse and Neutral Milk Hotel.

Cool, that'd be nice. I'll give it a shot once I quit spending all my money on vintage audio. Thanks!

you should check out the new pornographers, they have consistantly been releasing excellent records.

The starlight mints newerish cd is pretty good. Of Montreal's last record was in my cd player for 2 months straight, but i can understand why one may not like it. The first arcade fire cd was really good, but i'm sure if that station plays "indie" music they are playing the hell of out of them...

That's funny, my girlfriend bought that album like way early this year. It was the one with the old reel-to-reel projector on the cover.

Yeah, you're right. They're pretty good.

Good call.

i agree there's way too much garbage indie rock.
way too precious, over rated playing etc.
but there are some cool outfits that do fly under radar.

some indie shit i've dug in the last year:

black mountain (jagjaguwar) - indie sabbath.
Dungen - he's from sweden i think, but he's pretty out there.
m. ward (merge) - he's mellow most of the time, but a very good songwriter.
oakley hall - redneck rock out of the BK where i live.

i could listen to Jonesy yap all day. Rollins used to have a decent monday night show but i think he ditched it for the IFC gig a while back. otherwise it's pretty 'yawn'.

Yeah, Jonesy's funny. But you know music lacks progression when having Hall & Oates live on his show is the most impressive thing I remember from that station in months.

Of course, I'm a huge fan, daily.

Funny, I designed the banners for that show:

Dungen is excellent. I still listen to the first record every couple months. And the new iron and wine is really good as well. he keeps getting better and better!
