Blue l.e.d.'s redux

Aaaaaagh! Just got a Dunlop D.C. Brick to power everything on my pedalboard, got a few gigs coming up and I wanted to simplify my setup a little. There's an l.e.d. to indicate that it's getting power, and damn if it isn't one of those superbright blue bastards! Pointed right at my eye! It used to be a red one, I know because a buddy has an older one, it's red and doesn't blind you to look at it. Bunch of morons over there at Dunlop, some marketing asshole probably made the switch. Sorry if there's any typos, I don't know because I can't see the screen for all the bouncing blue dots in my vision right now. $@#&*$%@#!!!!!!!

something is definitely wrong. Your afterimage from a blue light should have you seeing yellow spots.

Do you think the freuency response of my eyes is off? Perhaps I should contact the manufacturer?

BTW, solved it. Put a piece of adhesive backed white velcro over the l.e.d. Can still see the light, just not so blinding.

I'd be pissed if I had to do this with a piece of high end gear though.

I've got a couple of high end pieces that sit right at eye level that I've had to put masking tape over the blue led's. I'd wager that 20+ years from now (if hardware is still used) that engineers will say "Musta been built right after the turn of the century if it has one of those damn blue led's. WTF were they smoking back then?".

I like blue LEDs, but why do they have to be so friggin' bright? A company can design an amazing piece of gear, but they cant figure out how to make a blue LED less bright and obnoxious?

With all the DIYers here why not just replace the LED's. Its probably the easiest mod ive ever done. I remeber someone posting something a while ago about how blue leds were much more damaging to your eyes or something. Not sure if thats true or not but from your story it sounds like it is.

Some of the violet LEDs cover a large part of the UV spectrum and can harm the eye.
