Stupidest thing you've ever heard on GEARSLUTZ

So we've got threads for guitar center and the studio, how about gearslutz?

Jules, if you think this is a bad idea feel free to delete the thread.

Any question about a new piece of gear that could've been answered by reading the manual.

"I don't use compression to control dynamics. I use EQ for that."

Yes, an actual quote I read here. The funny thing is that the guy defended that quote to the end, and became the laughing stock of gearslutz for several weeks.

here's another real stupid one:

Every thread on the Electronic Music forum that starts with, "Hi, I'm just starting to get into electronic music. I want to sound just like {artist}. What boards and plugs do I need to buy?"

1) "Jules is British"

2) Some of the polls on GS have been kinda dumb (or dont have enough options to vote on) so I have made it so these now have to be passed by the moderators first before going live...

3) But hey folks are human (for the most part....) in some circles this site has a rep of being a place where if you get something slightly wrong the crowd will slam you down..

WHAT A STUPID THREAD!

But I like to think we are among friends and and can make mistakes, learn from them, get up dust ourselves off and well, get back online on Gearslutz for 25 hours a day while our lives collapse & crumble around us, food rotting in the refrigerator, mail left unopened, just wandering around in a dressing gown unwashed, only getting up from Gearslutz to either go to the bathroom or order delivery food to eat at the screen watching gearslutz, hitting refresh to admire your own post that you just wrote for the zillionth time or in the desperate hope that some one has already responded within, say a second of your just posting it (It COULD HAPPEN right?).

Actually, the "MP3 Upload" section is probably the most truly helpful section of this forum, and sadly, is one of the least frequently populated.

I was afraid of that. I meant for it to be fun and self deprecating (I'm sure I've qualified a few times).

And why hasn't anyone mentioned Big Country yet?

Ha, I'm pretty sure that was my doing (sorry for the extra work moderators). I must confess I was quite proud of that thread while it lasted, and it did pretty well for itself, but I'm sure GS will be just fine without a poll about how attractive beyers are...

Great post by the way Jules. I think you summed it up pretty well for pom...

The posts that really get me are when an engineer shows up whose work I really respect and all some people can think of doing is petty bashing of some part of that engineer's work and/or accusing other people of being suck-ups. Thus driving people away whom we all could learn from.

Those posts and obvious and obnoxious pimping are the ones that I would call the stupidest. I can put up with just about anything else.
