Thread Starter | I've got a question: I have an external SCSI HD, it's formatted and works just fine when it's connected to my PC AND my S2000. When I try to load samples from it when it's NOT connected to my PC, my sampler doesn't find the HD ! It only works when my HD and akai S2000 were connected to my pc when I start up my computer. This is very unpleasant because now I can't use it anywere else then at home. The HD was formatted by my S2000 so i think that isn't the problem. I also have a terminator SCSI but that doesn't make any difference. Can someone please help me with this ? thanks Hans |

| it is prolly termination problem ,cause SCSI card in your PC is terminated by default ,so when you turn it off data doesnt come back to akai (or smth like that i really forgot all that scsi &$%&) try to disconnect cable which goes to pc and terminate hd ,or borrow another scsi device and try it with akai alone, huh good luck i think you're one of 10 ppl on planet who still use s2000 ...its all in stinkin peecee/mac boxes now ![]() |

Thread Starter | already a big thanks, my external SCSI HD is terminated by an external terminator (one of those little strrange blocks) . Now I don't know If Y should terminate it internally too for use without my PC . I'm gonna try to hook my sampler up to something else to test . I know it's an old thing but someone gave it to me and I think it can be very handy on stage, shurely cause i want to avoid the use of a real notebook on stage. thanks, and alternative ideas are always welcome H |

| If the terrmination in not the problem, make sure you have the right scsi id number. You can set a number on the drive, then make sure the number matches in the Global menue.

| I have owned and worked with a number of people who have owned Akai S2000s. All have told similar stories about scsi problems with the machine. I think they're just not very well made. MESA is a very flaky program at the best of times, though I was able to make it work once in a while. |

Thread Starter | the SCSI ID is right, cause my sampler finds the HD but only when both (sampler and HD) connected to my computer when I startt up my computer (in DOS the pc passes a SCSI ID veryfication and recognizes my sampler's SCSI ID and my HD's SCSI ID). Even when I unplug my PC from the chain after starting the 3 together up, my sampler can work with the HD. It's when I just want to use My S2000 and the HD without starrting up with the pc, that the sampler doesn't find the HD. Mesa works well and I don't have problem's with that. I can even run the smapler to recycle wich is very handy. But if I can't load the HD into my sampler in a non PC situation, I am not much further. greetz, H |

| It might still be a termination problem. There are active and passive terminators. If you have a passive one, chances are that you can get your problems solved with an active one. The bad news: They usually look the same. The good news: They can be had for cheap on ebay. Do a search for active/passive SCSI termination on google... Cheers, Kai |
