| Lives for gear | Gettin' Old Tomorrow, I turn 37. Yeah, I'm depressed. My life is nowhere where I thought it would be by now. No one seem to even know it is my b-day tomorrow. Family and friends included. Just moanin'. I need a mid-life crisis, but can't even afford that right now. Doc |

| Thirty-seven? Mid-life? HA HA HA HA HA But seriously, I'm forty-eight, and only now am clearly headed toward what I've really wanted for the last eighteen years. Thirty-seven years is NOT old, friend. |

| Ha Ha Ha indeed! I hate to tell you this, but at 37 it doesn't qualify as a "mid-life" crisis yet. More like a "late early life crisis". I don't even want to hear 37 year olds complaining about getting old, you ain't seen nothin yet. But if nobody knows it's your birthday, you might want to think about how you are handling life, relationships, friendships, family, etc. Are you remembering *their* birthdays and sending out cards, flowers, etc.? A little karma goes a long way in that regard. As time passes and I get older I find myself more and more valuing friendships and family, and wanting to have those people around me that I like to be with and who like to be with me. |

I'm crap at remembering birthdays, so I never really expect others to remember mine. But they do, and that makes me quite guilty. But try not to let a slump get you down. Ups and downs innit... ride the wave... enjoy what you have because that's the only reason to have it.

| Happy Birthday Dude! From a member of your GS family! Also, don't play the victim. Take charge and SHOUT from the rooftops "It's my Birthday damn it!" Positive attracts Positive! If that fails, just max out another card on some new sweet gear. ![]() |

| I decided to skip the mid life crises since I couldn't afford a good one (divorce, the 'Vette, 22 year old girlfriend, etc....)

but then I bought more gear... my midlife crisis will probably involve feeling cool while playing an instrument I have no business playing in front of people thru a crap amp in a garage, just to get back to my high school roots ya know? besides I hear 40 is the new 25... thank gawd I didn't get what I thought I wanted at 25, that would have been a disaster for all involved.

Where did you want to be?

| Lives for gear | Thanks all! Gonna drown myself in a little bit of ???? tonight. Where do I want to be? In a reputable studio, as a maintenance engineer, or even as a second engineer to start. But my regular day job pays pretty well, so weaning off it is tough with bills and all. The ability and knowledge is there, but the money situation could be a little tough. Life just never goes the way we planned, right? |

You'd probably have to live closer to LA, but that's life. I'm in the proces of trying to move to LA, to move my career up the ladder. I moved from Holland, to San Francisco because I wanted to do something in music/audio, almost 20 years ago. For you, it should be a breeze, as you live much closer to LA than I do. Check these links for jobs: Ascent Media | Career Opportunities Technicolor - Film Production Mandy's Film and TV Production Directory - television - video - broadcast Entertainment Jobs - Entertainment Jobs and Internships at EntertainmentCareers.Net VarietyCareers - The Media and Entertainment Job Site Rember, the worth thing is life is to look back in 20 years thinking "What if"or "If Only".

| Lives for gear | Nice links! Thanks! Let's see where this takes me. Anyone have any idea what a maintenance engineer grosses, off the top of your head? Experience: Commercial/Industrial electrician (Certified) 12 yrs NICET II Certification (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Techologies) Maintenance/Troubleshoot Electronics Technician 3 years Citrus College Recording Technologies Graduate '04 (Though got into recording when MIDI was fairly new) "Musician" (in quotes, because I play only for/with myself) Sorry about that! LOL! 17yrs Live Sound Engineer for many many years. On and On........ But I know I have the right education/experience for the job, so maybe a few resume's mailed out may be in order. PS: LA - 45 min away, roughly |
