All this is good for is the kids and that era he is in, everything else is so BS, the apartment is bogus and nothing special at all, wait till he's older ( about 10 more years) and dumped on the streets running back to mom and dad.

All I can say is, crazy shit! Did this album do well at all? It says on itunes that it was released in May... So why wait for that many months to make a video? By the way, why not wanting to co-write with Desmond Child? I'd give my left nut to be in a writing session with him!

hate to say it because I know everyone works really hard towards it...

its not hard to get signed unless you're awful.

and this video proves that even if you're awful, you can still get signed as long as you have affiliations with certain people.

Whats hard is getting a good deal as opposed to a bad one.

either way, I wouldn't sign with a major unless I already had shinslike/postalservicelike/mgmtlike indie sales... or unless they could offer me an advance that I couldnt refuse... I think the days of the overnight sensation are kind of dead, and majors kind of cater their business that way, nowadays people wont "make it" unless they've had a strong online cult following for a couple years - the internet will make music good again... I hope...

I've worked with Desmond. This kid is an idiot and got full of himself as a side-man for Avril's machine. He was fully ahead of himself in the hierarchy and his true place.... and yeah.. his music is/was mediocre. A deal , at the stage I saw him at was./is developmental at best. blah, blah, blah...

and again... what an IDIOT... a positive co-right with Desmond is exactly what he needed.

Some people just don't realize how lucky they are that they're able to co-write with some of the best in the industry.

It all has a "come on, impress me" vibe to it. Wouldnt feel comfortable co-writing like that.

And guys, why do we need to bash the kid's music? Lets just enjoy this video for what it is..

trolling seems to lack the impact when your post count is higher than your cumulative record sales

it's more than that. This biz is about energy and synergy... there are always more irons in the fire than enough fire to make them all hot. Having a co-write with Desmond potentially would have increased that heat. You need to get people exited to push you to the finish line... I think he made the common mistake that a record deal is the finish line.. it's just the opportunity to maybe enter the race.

I don't like this aspect of the industry. I respect some of the people who work for it but overall I find it very demoralizing to see that this is what feeds the general public. There are other ways that won't make you filthy rich but it will let you be honest with your art and actually make a living.

As for this Evan guy... Dunno, he looks, talks and (apparently) thinks like an adolescent schoolkid, wich is worrying for a 27 year old. That probably has a lot to do with why Mr. President didn't show up for the meeting and with the way the guys a WB greeted him like it was some friends 16 year old nephew. It's also might have a lot to do with the way Mr. Child treats him. In my experience if you want to be treated like a serious person you have to look and act like one. Now don't get me wrong: im not talking about wearing a suit. I'm talking about attitide and the kind of things that make others take you seriously. You could see not even the secretary could give a shit about the poor kid. And there I go again calling a 27 year old bloke a "poor kid". Something's not right here.

Somebody here said he has talent. I don't see it anywhere but then again what do I know? His songs make me cringe.

Oh well, coffee break over. Back to work!

I won't attempt to change anyones opinion because after all you are due that, however I'd like to clarify one or two items to help.

-One, when we shot the epk which is the basis for most of the reference here I was 22.

-Two, the part with Whalley was staged, it was my idea to make fun of a myself a bit, a new artist who cockily wanders in and wants to see the pres only to get blown off. Most of the people who enjoy my music got the joke, but taken out of context its no longer a fair basis for criticism.

-Three, as is true with any video, editing can massage the statements made to lean heavily one way or the other, and while I will not deny that at that point in my artistic career I was taking a break from co-writing & wasn't as excited as many of you would have been to write with Desmond the fact is that we turned off the cameras, dug in and wrote a "Misfit" that came out on Lesley Roys debut Jive album last year. Desmond is a legend and we had a blast that day.

I can't comment directly on the assumptions of "marketing" and other major label conspiracy theories. Though the basis for those statements may be valid in todays music climate the truth is that I make the music I personally enjoy making and do my best to execute that ambition. I cant speak on behalf of any other artists but I can definitely say that there's no boardroom, flow charts, or evil plan to promote or market, its plain and simple as me in my studio recording songs I love and releasing them. You have every right to not like that music, but I also have the right as an artist to not really care(respectfully) and keep making music I am proud of. The record I made with Howard in retrospect as of today does feel a little too up the middle for my liking but at 22 and just learning about being a solo artist I still stand by that album( infect I think you GSers will appreciate Plotnikoffs engineering as well as my drummers performances). I think Fields did a superb job on my 2nd album which was also another reflection of a period of time in my career(though it was released this year it was finished over two years ago)and I look forward to sharing what I do next. Truth be told, this is what music is about. I get to create and express myself via the sincere and comfortable means which I endorse and the listeners( yourselves included) ultimately get to make their own judgements and opinions.

You are always welcome to say and think anything you'd like about me as a artist and songwriter but I get to wake up and make music every day and until that changes I have little reason not to enjoy doing what i do and be very happy while doing it.

Man if I had to see myself dealing with labels at 22, I'd cringe.
Your response is what was needed. Respect.
At the end of the day, it IS about being able to do what you want when you wake up and I too appreciate that I have been able to do that for 20 years now.

Pumpkin pie??? wtf..

Anyway, being with a major and/or with a major promotion company, it's NOT as glamorous as it seems.. I unfortunately speak from direct experience.
For very very few artists that are treated well and really get the promotion and support there are hundreds that are treated like *shit*. I ditched it and went with a good independent.
If you're not a big star, major rarely do something good for you. Claim your way up the hard way and if you got balls you'll stick. Watch it tho', lotsa money will be needed at first

I definitely feel that my songs would have more success than that. But I've turned down label deals because I'm scared that they might put me on the backburner.

a good 3 years worth of thread on a sunday morning.

FWIW, i think evan's a good dude and a talented musician. if the music business was easy, everyone would do it, and he's managed to carve himself out a successful career. having seen much of it from the sidelines (I remember working on a record for warners where he came in to the studio to meet Cavallo, camera crew in tow...) it certainly wasnt simply blind luck that got him there.

all this in spite of the fact that he pretty much only plays PRS guitars and has a questionable haircut... even more amazing!

seems like more people would rather bash on an internet forum then churn out music they're passionate about... i don't get it?

nah. I make plenty of music in between the bashing. to be fair to Evan(thats my brothers name btw ) I hate all radio pop and think it caters to the lowest common denominator.

How is the album doing on the charts?

Wow I just checked myspace quick:

Me: 99 plays today
Evan: 127 plays today

Didn't really expect that at all.

myspace is virtually (in both ways) dead, so we can figure myspace play counts are meaningless and quantify nothing

also, good to have ya here evan! glad all the heckling hasn't turned you away...

appreciate the supporters out there, and of course the heckling is no biggie. I'd likely say much of the same shit if I didn't know myself

here's a better understanding of my major label career.
