Thread Starter | Well... But at Switzerland, people tend to make 4 times more than at Portugal... Plus... At Switzerland you can actualy try before you buy. At Portugal you gotta pay, wait 4 months for what you paid for, and when it arrives, it`s broken or it`s not the model you ordered. Well... At least Cuba sucks way more than Portugal. |

Heeey, Another portuguese on the forum :D Where did you get that price from? I usually can get the same prices that the big european stores (musicstore, thomann...) but not always, though. Ah, e esses videos da assinatura são brutais, acho é que somos os unicos do forum a curtir isso =D |

Yes for some boutique stuff but since you will need to test the equipment at your own place to truly evaluate it, then it doesn't matter if it's shipped from another part of Switzerland or say from Germany. Being in the EU it should even be easier for you to have gear shipped to Portugal. But then again, we Swiss get the VAT back and save some bucks that way, eAlso, retailers like thomann.de have a 30-day return policy for shipped goods (it believe it's EU law). This covers everything but software I believe and special orders like a guitar with your name inlaid into the fingerboard..... No reason to take advantage of this in unethical ways but if you can't decide between say 2 different mics order both and send the one you like less back. If the shipping costs are not worth it then I can't help you. In Europe I recommend Thomann for the utility/everyday stuff and Golden Age Music in Sweden for Pro Audio gear. Being in Switzerland it's a no-brainer for me to get stuff from the US also. Mercenary and Vintage King are great, not only because of the prices but even more so for the service and knowledge. There never was a problem and in the case of a broken power supply for a Little Labs IBP it was immedeately replaced and a new unit shipped by Vintage King....at NO charge. I can't see any reason why this couldn't be done from Portugal.

Well.... The vat at Portugal is 21%. And if you buy something from the U.S. the customs will ad something between 30% to 50% to the item value. And if they really like what`s in the package, they will keep it for themselfs. I know about musicstore and such, but they don`t hold much cool gear... They have lots of "mid market" stuff, but if you want something cooler (usualy made in U.S.), they just don`t have it. If they do, it costs +1000$ more... (Gotta try your good gear dealer tho) If some american companies manufactured their products also within E.U., and keep their prices as in the American market, I bet that their sales would go up at least 20%, probably much more. |

Thread Starter | Well... I had no idea that switzerland has no vat... So, from now on, everything I buy will go straight to a friend of mine in switzerland, and then he will ship the stuff to me through his friend company. Now I can say I`m happy. |

| Lives for gear | We do have VAT but it's lower than the EU one so in the end we save about 10% (but pay higher shipping costs as opposed to ordering within the EU). Example: Swiss VAT is 7,6%, German VAT is 19% now I believe. So I save 11,4% but might have to pay some custom fees. Naturally this only concerns only ordering from EU countries, if I order from the US then I still will have to pay the Swiss VAT and the custom fees, though they're pretty low. (The 20-30% you mention for Portugal sound very scary!!) It's the same with sales taxes in the US. If you're in New York and ordering from say New Jersey, then you're saving on the NJ sales tax...... |
