Thread Starter | Stupidity - short true story inside
So... My friend (who's blind btw) paid for the recording of his (jazz) concert in one of our main venues. The concert was recorded by two parties - official national TV stuff via the mixing desk and his "guru" friend. TV recorded for free (so to speak) as it'll go on TV as well, his friend charged him 200 eur for the service. TV made reasonably ok recordings (even good for their shifting standards) while the other guy still hasn't shown anything. The fun of it: He recorded instruments not via mixing desk, but using his homemade binaural head-pres-to modified casette recorder (he's using normal tape, crom and metal are out of the question, so are hd recorders...) Now he doesn't want to give the tapes to my blind friend, as he's not satisfied with the recording (caught too much of the PA), and does not want to transfer them to CDs (or let anybody do it). Besides this - he claims that all of his recordings are made for listening on headphones (some that cost 500 eur or more), and refuses to play any of it over the usual home setups. And my blind friend believes every word of it. I proposed a blind listening test over my home studio setup (I'd switch between transfered and original and let them comment). Of course "the man" refused to do it. Fun fun fun... |

Soulata, a lot of confusion here. If this individual already got paid for recording, he is obliged to either turn over some semblance of a finished master or to return the money. Did anybody agree to let this genius use his homemade binaural setup or did he just dictate that himself? He is hiding behind the fact that he made a lousy recording, and he is throwing in the bit about "only-for-headphones" to make things even more confusing. Unless he truly has modified his deck in some extreme way, I somehow doubt that a (binaural ) casette recording, done near a PA system (and on cheap tape) is going to be so demanding that it can't survive being played on a set of speakers ![]() As I see it, he is full of BS. Best,

| Classic. I agree, the guy screwed up and made a lousy recording and now is trying to hide behind some technical mumbo-jumbo talk. It's really between those two guys now though isn't it? I mean, you are pretty much done at this point other than helping out your friend. The only additional thing I could see you doing is offer your venue again, but on the condition that you choose the engineer. |

| That's REALLY bad, but I can't help it... also very funny. Heh You turned this thread into a joke by supplying the punchline. thumbsup lol p.s. - Before anybody gets all up in arms, PLEASE save the p.c. crap. Good comedians make fun of everyone for everything. |

a blind listening test he he...my blind friend is actually much in favor of any good jokes...(luckily). k p.s.: a year ago he actually told one of the gig organizers that he looked much better than when he saw him years ago. The guy seemed really pleased (until he noticed...). |
