Anyone read the Wash Post article about the violinist?

It's long, but kind of interesting.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty interesting.
I'd also like to see if there was a difference if it were done again in say, Europe than in America.
The article doesnt really attempt to draw any sweeping conclusions, but it's definately interesting.

that proves it , people in DC (govt) are idiots hahaha...

my take,; most people dont care.. about music. thay turn the radio and whatever is there is good enough and if its from someone in the tabloids even better, they can talk about the new song when they are at the watercooler at work.

and for that it needs a hell a lot of money for the marketing and business side of music because u can bet that if britney/timberlake/aguilera wherent known and started singing in the street it will be the same as the violin guy..

But i still believe in quality and bueaty, thats why im a little different, i dont have a TV or listen to radio cause i dont want things being sold to me all the time. i want to chooose because I like it , not because others tell me to like it. and there is a lots of small groups of poeple like that , that they believe that there is something else, something good and less superficial, poeple that believe in things not just work for the money come home, watch TV to see what to buy later at the mall...
we live in a world where there is a lot of consumption.

but then again, why fight right... I like to see it as playig the game, know what marketing is doing for the big stars, how they do it , listen for what is good
and learn from the beuty there is. cause the songwriters and producers behind the starts are the poeple that know beuty of music and are the "violinsit" in this story, and learn how to work in the system so somene else is doing the business thing because thats maybe what they like and enjoy and are usually making fun of us cause we dont care that much about money.
ok.. too much hippie talk, i have to go to the mall and buy some armani jeans and ride my H2

This reinforces something my agent always says regarding shows;

"there are no bad artists, just bad bookings"

I guess it could all boil down to "appropriateness", if there's such a word.

thanks for this link.

It IS very blog-ish and kind of weird how they printed it.
Not sure if the paper version is the same.
I still think it's a worthwhile read.

Great article! I love the style too. . . I'm glad everything isn't that way, but I really enjoyed the pacing.

Interesting. I really enjoyed The Red Violin soundtrack, for anyone that wants to hear more of Joshua Bell. "The Death of Anna" is fantastic.

thanks for this link.
In this day and age, I agree more and more.

Tho it's truly saddening to think virtually an entire populace could be so out of touch with true musicality - it boggles the mind.

I'd like to see an identical experiment done in various global regions to assess the outcome. IMO, DC is NOT the cultural mecca of the US, but this commuter area is pretty far from their 'cultural wastelands'.

That said, I wouldn't hesitate guessing the US to be the WORST country for expecting any mass recognition of "talent". That word does not belong in the same dictionary for what's being consumed daily...

Great link - nice find TREMORS!!!

A very sensationalist and overblown writing style for sure. Kind of annoying, but definitely worth reading.

It's another reminder that art is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

You could have the painting for $10 but wouldn't you rather own a $10,000 painting?

Opening that link crashes Safari on both of my computers. Weird.

I think they use WMV embedded.

Anyone hear the chamber orchestra in the Paris Metro? Not the greatest players, but really fun to hear them. Lots of people stopped when they were playing.

That sucks, Max. I'd really like your take on the article.
I'm sure you get the gist of it, though.
I wasnt able to see any of the video, but it kept telling me I needed to install flash.
Anyway, thanks for those that it was a cool link.
