Why cant one DAW/Sequencer do what I want it to?!?!!?

***I was going to rant about how pissed I am at spending so much money trying to find the right app to work with when I saw a blurb about Brad Delp's suicide. And then Richard Jeni. Sorry, but I cried...again. To be so dissatisifed with life, or so confused inside...well, it makes my bitch n moan post seem...very, very insignificant. I will post back later when I can actually see my own troubles as being worth addressing...***

(oh- yeah- I really am pissed off inside. And I do want to re-post my rant...)

OK...now I can bitch...

Why is it so fracking difficult to find that magical piece of software? I have wasted nearly every spare penny I have just to buy those apps I did not have so I could actually try them in real life use. THAT SUCKS ASS. That is the first bitch and moan.

So, I get them, and I am off. I have a loaner PT HD, I own PT LE, and then I upgraded Digital Performer to ver 5, and Cubase to ver 4 (I bought SX1, and even owned Nuendo...I found out today why they sat in the box after the first few uses), and then bought Logic Pro.

Where should I start? Well, I am a parapleigc. Boo-frackin-hoo for me. I'm over it, and lif egoes on. And since I cannot get up and about everyday like I wish I could, I have to settle for limited options in life. Collect disability, try to figure another way to make some cash, and in the meantime- compose! I finally have the time to write MY music. I have used Pro Tools for years, and had these deusional dreams of running a project studio based around PT HD. Yeah, bright move... Anyway, I sell PT HD, grab LE, and then I get a loaner PT HD rig for awhile to do some work for someone with. Cool! But, it sucks royal buttocks to use for composing. Mac Pro for my "out of bed, real recording of instruments and stuff" thing. Lovin OS X, not goin back to XP or to Vista. For those "boo-hoo for me days" that I am bedridden, I have a MacBook Pro (yeah, sound slike I have $$, but it is me selling everything else i own that I dont use that got me this stuff...hopefully it will last me several years..it has to...)

PT is out for me with the laptop cause it sux ass. I dont want to hook up extra hardware, I just want to write, and not have to use headphones if I dont want to. And I dont want 30 wires all over my bed. Frack PT and the whole proprietary hardware thing.

Next up, DP5. Oh what a frackin thrill this piece of work is. "Can we get regions for editing using blocks of data please?" "Sure! Just make sure you bring your magnifying fracking glass, cause to do so with MIDI, you will have to use this ridiculously tiny fracking window with itty bitty titty sized tracks. Yeah, the Sequence window was a brilliant addition, and so was the single window can do all thing. But no MIDI regions? -=SMACK!!!=- Then, for this app that I always hear people bragging on the composing side, you cannot do multiple takes of MIDI. It either replaces what is there, or merges with it. No MIDI regions, so what th efrack should I have expected. Then, let's go ahead and suck the system dry. Who the frack cares that Logic and even Steinberg (the mighty "Frack Mac" company) can make their apps run reasonably well where DSP is concerned. So, unless someone can show me how I have somehow missed the entire boat on that one, or until MOTU gets off their asses, frack DP5.

Logic Pro. Oh, what fun. "Logic is so...illogixal. It makes no sense...and that stupid environment shite...what's that about? I had to get a degree just to use it!" Oh, STFU. It isnt that bad. Nice included instruments and plug-ins to be able to sketch ideas with. Unfortunately, Apple has seen that it is more important to make this app like "Garageband Pro" than do anything positive for people like me. But, I am just a stupid "prog rock chick," which means I am in the bottom, like, .00005% of their customer base. "Hey Logic- can I select a MIDI input for this track?" "Uhh, sorry prog bitch, no...well, actually, yes, but you have to learn a few tricks first. Here is a Scooby snack, now goto sleep for awhile..." Frack that. "Can I use my BFD VI in Ultra mode, so I can use all my instrument slots in that VI?" "Well, that would be ridiculous of you to ask! Of course you may not. Why not try some Apple Loops? Far more fun and easy!" Well, how about doing cycled MIDI recoding takes? I can? Woohoo! Oh- I just did that, and found out...I am in the same fracking boat as with Pro Tools when playing them back. There is NO priority for MIDI tracks assigned to the same Object. Unmute more than one, and they ALL sound at the same time. And instead of Lanes, we will just keep making another track...and then another...and another...and another...and another.... Or, you can just use the one track, and try to fish through you rtakes in some magical place that does not exist. Yep, you do NOT get a list of your MIDI take s anywhere, and unless you choose to autocreate a new take each pass, you are buggered. Thanks os much for playing, now bend over and accept your rump-stuffing. Wanna trigger one instrument from multiple MIDI tracks feeding different channels or ports in that single VI? LOL!!! Wow- you are really starting to piss off Logic now, and must enter the Environment and begin a nice journey of self discovery to accomplish this. Layers, cables, Objects...terms translated from German, and then trying to fgiure out which Buss you are actually on. It isnt THAT difficult- most 12-year olds can figure it out if they take a break form their hormonal urges long enough, but it is a royal PITA, and any deviation form your "normal" workflow and "tool usage" means a trip to the sanitarium, otheerwis eknown as the Logic Environment and application Prefs and setup. But at least it has MIDI regions, and a Tempo/Meter track...

...Which Cubase does not. How the frack do you have a sequencer based DAW that has been around since dinosaurs like the AMiga walked the earth adn NOT have a tempo/meter track in your main edit iwndow? Oh sure, the naysayers will flow forth, presenting wonderful stories of how THEY have no use for this, and how Mozart didnt need one, and how anyone who feels slighted by not having it is simply..well...simple. Frack that, and frack Steiny for this one. No AU? Yeah- nice. The company that began life away from Atari on a Mac now strives for the more "loop friendly" world, and for those on a PC. Strand those on Intel Mac from half the VST plugs that are the only ones that will work with your new beast. People thought Digi sucked for RTAS and releasing versions that required plug-in updates? At least they gave out the SDK's to the 3rd party devs BEFORE releasing the software. Oh- wait- I know, it is because Nuendo is the flagship, so they test things with the Cubase users first.

Yes, I am the one person in the entire world that cannot find a DAW with MIDI capabilities that work for me. Great feature sin all of them, but a nice steady tide of developing for the "assemble from pre-recorded material" generation. And why not? Silly traditionalists should be able to write with pen an dpaper, and score what they want, and then hit the old analogue factory for some good old fashioned recording. I am so sick of spending money on all these apps just to try them this month. I just want a set of tools to do what I want.

Oh! That si the next good one: I grab Sibelius G7 to transcribe with. Hahahaha!!! Frack you Intel Mac user, we dont have any warning on our site. You should have downloaded the demo, and assumed we have the SAME version in release right now...or, you should have called/emailed us. Yep, my bad, my fault. But, dammit, get with the times please!!! Avid owns you now- Avid- hey! FIX IT!!!

Each and every app has one golden flaw minimum. Some have more. I feel like I will never find one that works for me. I thought my workflow wishes would be common ones. And then I looked at how people make music these days. I begin to feel alone. And that is alos one of my problems: I am trying to use a computer to play the part of "robot musicians" i program to play certain parts in my band. I cannot get out regularly enough to be in a real band, so as I try to put together the parts I come up with, I have to make concessions left and right in my software choices.

All I want to do is be able to record multiple passes of Audio and/or MIDI, and have each take be independent, and available for me to audition, use, and edit to form a comp if I want. PT has bugs, DP doesnt allow this for MIDI, Logic is clumsy and creates tracks galore, and Cubase shines.

Next I want a visible tempo/meter track, so I can work on sections with complicated timing. All but Cubase have this, so even though the last paragraph looks goood for Cubase, this kills it, just as DP5 was killed in the above.

I want to move between the SAME versions of my app on my desktop and laptop. I want the full feature set available. I would prefer to use the built-in audio on my laptop when I choose to if I so desire. This paragraph eliminates any Digi product, and makes it so that PT HD would be the ONLY solutiion were I to choose them. But, for the laptop...well...

Logic..well, I get it. But, for my manner of working, it is incredibly clumsy. It requires an immense amount of pre-planning, and if I stray from that pre-designed workflow in any way, I face uncertainty. Pro Tools is the polar opposite of Logic in this respect IMO. But, PT was already eliminated. And then Logic- well, try importing a .mid file that has tempo/meter info into a session/project. LOL!!! Good luck. Same with Cubase.

So, that is all I can write while remaining completely pissed off. Pretty pathetic, huh? You'd figure I would feel lucky I could choose form all those. I even looked at using Bootcamp and XP. LOL! Yeah...dont get me started on Sonar. Oh well... guess I'll go sit in the sun for a bit...

for half an hour

i just want that cubase supports true sidechaining + better midi routing options +
a more flexible mixer + .... ->

will that ever happen ?!?!

why is it that every audio forum is full of usefull suggestions to implement in
daw a,b or c and nothing happen in developer world
