They got dirt and dust all over my Neotek!

Man whatta bunch of crap. The people that own the building are working on the space right above mine. They're sanding the floors and what not and have managed to get dirt and dust all over my stuff-FOR THE SECOND TIME!!! The first time they did it they realised what had happened and call to apologise. This time the damage is worse, and no phone call no nothing. Needless to say I gotta take each channel strip out and clean it. Man I am pissed. The problem is the landlord/owner is cool, but I don't think I wanna let this one go. Would you?

Well, I'd definately lay a cover down when you leave until they're done.

Other than that, whadaya gonna do? Ask the landlord to come over and blow on all the faders? Ask them to come over for beers, and ask them to bring cans of compressed air.

hopefully he's giving you some kind of warning when they're going to be doing work - that much should happen.

He probably has no idea what a serious problem this causes. I bet he assumes you just need to break out the feather duster for a minute or two. Perhaps you need to show him exactly how serious this is and let him know that next time he causes this kind of damage because he didn't bother to communicate with you, you will have to bill him for the tech time and any sessions that had to be cancelled during the repairs.

Dust from sanding floors is so fine it will get into everything. I agree with the above post. Let your landlord know exactly how long it will take to clean out each strip. If your landlord is as cool as you say he is, he will fully understand and probably be real sorry.

Bummer about all the dust... use a shopvac with a brush attachment to suck the dirt out, you dont want to blow the dust further into the gear

I cant understand how a soundproof/airtight studio would get dust from another room into it....

if the dust is coming in.... your sound is going out, how can you work without bothering the other tenants ?

at least the thin walls should be good for adsorbing the bass waves trap

File an insurance claim against them for damages - it is just the same as if someone floods your apartment, you need to clean up and restore, which takes time and money.

You could also look to taking them to court as wood dust is dangerous to humans as well as being highly flamable - it is a health risk.

I am sure wood dust is bad for gear, it will dry out faders and pots for a start, clog up heatsinks and fans etc.

Maybe once you landloard or upstairs neighbour gets a lawsuit or damage claim against them, they will be more considerate. At the very least, you need compensated for time and replacement costs.

I never said it was airtight or soundproof. It's not. I'm in a commercial loft space where it's work only. None of the tenants have ever complained.

Anyway, I am going to say something to the landlord about this and see if anything happens.
