Well, in regards to the best bang for your buck that someone can get, I track with the Great River preamp through its DI (the DI adds more color and weight to it). What I like about the Great River when it comes to any type of usage is the variety of sound you can get out of the unit. It also has a great sound thats ideal when stacking a lot of tracks. It might not be a 1073, but it gives you what was great about the 1073 but with a more modern twist to it. You can drive the input gain very hard for a nice thick, punchy sound, or you can drive the output gain more for a more modern, airy type of sound. Thats me only getting into two of the varieties it can give you. Its worth checking out for sure if you havent already.
