Regarding pop filters, I have experimented also and found that metal ones are more transparent (soundwise, that is ;-)

Hey pan60 I had a question about Pete’s blast pad, is this item still being made? I am a rapper that would like to get close to the mic about two inches away and avoid plosives also I have experimented with metal pop filters and nylon both with undesirable results based on my setup. With the metal Steadman pop filter I could hear the metal affecting my voice in the recording. With the nylon when spaced over a hoop it created undesirable hollow sounds in combination with my Re 320 dynamic mic, the hollow sounds where especially noticeable on the f sounds. I have also used pantyhose over a hanger but I think the material might be to thin. I am still experimenting but am somewhat interested in the blast pad . Do you think this would fit my needs based on your experience with vocals? Do you think it would be suited for rap vocals:? Does the metal in the filter color the sound in a particular way? Thanks for this info. Much appreciated.
