    Then I'd think of it in terms of mixing while you are tracking, and play around with two compressors in series while tracking.
    This works real well on vocals.

    I usually use the RI Sta level in series with MC77, but the LA2A is even more commonly used.
    Play around with the two so so each does some compression....you'll find what sounds best to you.
    It will give the vocal an intimacy.

    Mike, I thought it might be easier to explain what I'm doing so its in context. I don't record, then process, per se. I mean, I can do that, but I do voice overs and quite a bit of live session work via ISDN. So I'm trying to replicate the post production sound in real time, as opposed to mixing down in the traditional way that recording studios usually work so I can better control my product. It's weird, I know, but it is what it is. I almost need to have my processing set up like a radio station, rather than a production house, in that regard. Creating that perfect sound that comes right out of the mic is a real challenge, but I'm having fun with it.
