Anyway, I've owned the Fatso (sold it, but it was a good compressor... not great as a tape emulator) and I own the Portico 5042, which I like, but it is very subtle, but solid)
I also own and use A Studer A80 MKII, but I have to say the Anamod does exactly what it is designed to be, it imparts that vibe of printing to tape to the tracks you ru through it.
The best results is both tracking each part through it and then mixing back to it, truly treating it as a tape machine.
For that classic Zep sound, they have cards of great older machines and classic tape stock, you could go for those, many people think the 351 is one of the best!
I will warn you though that a commom mistake is that people get this nostalgia "idea" of tape and expect everything to come out of it sounding like a '70's record. It won't There are a billion other factors to how those records were made, the consoles, the mics, the way bands payed together, etc.
The Anamod does its job REALLY well, you just have to work it like a real tape machine.
That'd be my most fair review.
Hope that helps!
