hey cserrano,
i set up a kick mic, a snare mic, and a overhead mic. different setups each time. but mainly i stuck to using a sure beta 52a on kick, inside the drum pointed at beater, a beyer m160 on snare. and a Beesneez james on overhead. maybee there where a few songs which had the m160 as a mono overhead. but mostly the james. As far as compression, i hit the kick and snare with a bit of compression. nothing to extreem. just a few dbs on peaks if i could help it. used a Bac 500 on kick, and a purple mc77 on snare. if i remember correctly, i dont think i compressed overheads much if at all. maybee just a tickle through a Drip La2a.
the real trick with the drums came on mixdown. i ran the entire drum mix though a little labs VOG, and on some of the later songs also through a standard audio level or. they where completely smashed. some might say to much so. it was straight up abuse... but i think they sound cool. what kind of music are you recording?

Hey there! I saw an old post of yours where you mentioned recording drums on a 4-track cassette recorder using just 3 of the tracks. My question is how did you set up your mics? Also, how much compression do you use going to tape? Thanks a lot!
