Hey Tiny! I was reading through some JBL 4408 threads and it seems like you have lots of experience with them. The edges of my speakers are all worn out, but the sound (surprisingly) still sounds fine. Should I replace the whole cone or just repair the trimmings? Thanks man!!!

Took it with me to a live gig last weekend and didn't have a chance to put it up. If nothing else, I'll set it up in my place and do a quick comparison with some other mics (HM1, V69m, u873r...)

The main thing you get with these is the input transformer. You'll probably get a roll off of higher frequencies, but the biggest difference is in the low end when you hit them hard. Basses and synths get a nice, warm bass sound that stands out a bit (this is actually distortion from the hysterisis when the cores saturate).

For phantom power, you can build a box yourself. But, if the mic mixer doesn't 48v available, it's easier to just buy a unit.
